Which party logo is better: Republican or Democrat?

Asked by doggywuv (1041points) September 22nd, 2009

In your opinion which party logo of the two American parties is better?

Republican Party logo: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9b/Republicanlogo.svg

Democratic Party logo:

Personally I’m not sure. The Democratic Party logo is more dynamic while the Republican Party one is more traditional and static. I prefer the elephant as a party mascot instead of the donkey.

Keep in mind that there are many elements to take into consideration when analyzing a logo.

I think half of America’s voters register in the party of their choice, based upon factors like this. (Not saying you did).

The jackass pre-dates the Civil War and came into popular usage at that time
The elephant is attributed to the cartoonist Thomas Nast probably in the 1870’s
Nast also created the Tammany Tiger for the Manhattan Democratic Party machine, notorious for the amount of graft taken by the Tweed ring in the 1860’s and 1870’s.

Nast was also famously anti-Irish and anti-Catholic for what it’s worth.

Isn’t this the more common democrat logo? I’ve never seen that one before.

On a purely aesthetic basis, I think the elephant logo looks better. I guess I like cartoonish or symbolized elephants. Lucero has a classic one.

Pink elephants are charming.

…However, I think donkeys are much more amazing animals than elephants, if I had to compare. They are extremely intelligent, playful, have strong sense of self-preservation, and are supposed to be remarkable for warding off predatory animals. My grandpa swears by this. He keeps one on his ranch to watch over his horses and claims that it will scare off pretty much any predator far more effectively than any watchdog. And unlike ‘guard’ dogs, donkeys are child-friendly. And who doesn’t love heeee-haaawwww??

@J0E We officially switched to the one doggywuv linked to about two years ago, but the one you linked to is also often used.

@peedub I think elephants are amazing! They have a high intelligence, a wide range of emotions including a sense of humor (!!) and a strong family structure. This is a very interesting article.

I’m not hatin’ on the donkey, though. ~
I do know several farmers who have donkeys in the fields with their cows or horses; They are beneficial and quite interesting.

I honestly think both reflect negative aspects of each party. I’m not sure why either one of them embrace the logos. I suppose I like the Republican logo better. I just can’t see how being represented by an ass could carry a positive connotation to the general public. (You can call it a donkey, but it is still an ass.)

@Supacase But having an ass as a logo provides so many clever opportunities

The Republicans have the RINO, too. Blind charging at any opportunity to augur-in. Big Whoop… My self, I’m hoping that if the Rep.‘s ever rejuvenate to become the Grand New Party they adopt the giraffe. Show courage and stick your neck out. I also have a pic of a giraffe kicking the snot out of a lion in Africa. Nobody in the African wild messes with an adult giraffe.
