Should I suggest a price reduction?

Asked by Facade (22937points) September 23rd, 2009

So I found my perfect frames (glasses), and I plan to purchase them. The thing is, they’re discontinued. A nearby Lenscrafters happens to be the only ones to my knowledge who carry them. I plan to ask for a price reduction because if they are damaged or something of that nature, the chances of me being able to get a replacement are slim.
Have any reasons why I shouldn’t ask to purchase them at a lower price?

I don’t see why you couldn’t ask for one. They may refuse. In that case, would you still want to buy them? If yes, then okay. If not, then you might want to have a second choice in mind.

You can totally ask. However, I’d bet that large chain stores might be less flexible in their pricing than an independently-owned store, no matter what they’re selling.

Everything you buy is negotiable.

Nope. In this economy, always try to get a price reduction. The worst case scenario is you pay full price, the best, they discount, and if they don’t reduce, maybe they’ll offer some other deal.

Talk to a manager!

I would suggest you ask….you’ve nothing to lose (and although the manufacturer may have discontinued the style, they will likely continue to support it with replacement parts). See ya….Gary/wtf/lurve whore

Yes, one of the biggest secrets to frugal living is to always ask for a price reduction or discount.

As in Golf, Never up never in.

Another idea that could save you hundreds! I had a backup pair of glasses, so I wore those and sent my good frames to an internet glasses maker. They made new lenses and put them in my old frames and I think I only paid like $60 (bifocals are a little more expensive so yours may be lower) You will need your prescription though. Strength, astignatism adjustment and most important your interocular distance. (the distance between your pupils. I was very satisfied and will do it again this time in October.

Hmm, I have all the but inter-ocular distance. That’s a fantastic idea though.

My vision plan paid so much for frames and so much for lenses, and no trading in-between, so last year I got a years worth of daily wear contacts, and a pair of pretty cool sunglasses. Then I bought a New, but old stock pair of Bausch and Lomb Black over silver frames, and sent them to I think eyeglass direct with a copy of my prescriptions AND my first set of bifocals. I got a great product for really cheap!

Yea, my plan will only pay for one or the other as well.
