Does anyone use a cooling pad for their laptop?

Asked by charhalCDW (128points) September 25th, 2009

I have a cooling device for my 360, and so far it’s saved me from the feared Red Ring. But many moons ago I fried an AGP graphics card playing WoW on my Alienware. I have customers asking me for recommendations on cooling pads for their notebooks. Any good experiences out there?

I game occasionally on my MBP, (this one just before the unibody) and I just prop it up sawhorse style over two stacks of yellowpages (knew they were good for something) and that seems to be adequate cooling.

I use one. I haven’t had either a laptop fail this is my first or and Xbox ring of death, but now I am thinking about plugging this cooler under my Xbox, lol.

I’ve never heard of a cooling pad for laptops. Can this go near the exhaust part…because I literally have burns on my legs from using my laptop and not having something underneath it :(

i currently use a Targus cooling pad and it is a bit smaller than my MBP. The fans used to run off the USB port, but I souped it up a bit by using a 6V external adaptor. That increased the airflow pretty good, but at the cost of additional wear. The design flaw in the Targus is that it is all plastic so doesn’t of itself help conduct heat from the bottom of the laptop. It relies on two 3” fans to pull air in from the sides of the pad and exhaust them out a port on one of the long edges. The rubber nubbins included with the plate are inadequate to keep my ‘portable’ computer from sliding right off, so I turned it around, removed the nubs and inserted dowels in the holes. Now it doesn’t slide. When this one dies, I going hunting for a metal heat-sink with a fan, failing that, I will construct one for myself and post design stuff so other folks can custom build their own loin savers.

i use a belkin cooling pad and it’s helped immensely to stem overheating of my laptop (dell inspiron 1720)

I dont know about laptops, but I DO know that the intercooler for the 360 is really just crap. go llamma.com and then their Xbox 360 page. Look into Talismoon Whisper coolers. They’re a whole junkload better then the intercooler and a ton quieter also. Just my say.
