What is the legal minimum of time to be taken for work lunch?

Asked by Ziggy90 (29points) September 25th, 2009

For an 8-hour shift in the state of Kentucky, how long should lunch breaks be? I’ve looked around the internet but haven’t found anything specific. Thanks in advance!

Normally you should get at least 2, 15 min breaks and a 30 min lunch.

@laureth The site says “Kentucky state law stipulates that a “reasonable meal period” must be provided to all employees. Usually this is expected to be a 30 minute meal break, but it can be shorter if work conditions make it necessary.”
.
Do you think this goes for any lengths of shifts?

it varies by state if i’m not mistaken, but there is a federal minimum i’m pretty sure.

Just google it. It would take you far less time to type “employee lunch breaks, kentucky” in google than do this.

@Ziggy90 – As someone otherwise unfamiliar with Kentucky law, I’d have to go with what the rest of the page says. It sounds like if the shift is longer, there might be other shorter breaks (“I also found it interesting that Kentucky law mandates paid rest periods for all employees. For each four hour work period, a worker must be given a ten minute paid rest period”) or even time to sleep (“When it comes to sleeping time, employees required to be on duty less than 24 hours is considered to be “working” even if he or she is permitted to sleep during some of those hours when not busy. If an employee is on duty more than 24 hours, a sleeping period of no more than eight hours may be deducted from work hours”).
