Welcome to Fluther @younganny.

Okay, it would be nice to know more details. Why do you think that you have a talent for surgery? Is that really what you want from life?

But generally speaking, I’d suggest an internship at a hospital. Work with some doctors there and get their opinion and ask questions from them.

Didn’t you just ask a question about passing a drug test?

I’d prefer to not have a surgeon operating on me or my loved ones under the influence of anything.

@younganny It’s 15 year olds like you that make the rest of us teenagers look bad. Seriously, if your going to be here straighten up because those are mostly the answers you are going to recieve and you don’t need to bitch about it.

@everyone: I’m not trying to be mean, I’m just looking for advice, I probably won’t smoke anymore anyway, I guess fluther is the wrong place for that ;(

Theres no need to insult anyone though.

Maybe try dissecting a frog and see how it goes?

[Mod says]: Flame off, people. Try to get back to the question at hand. As a reminder: is there a way for a 15 year old to determine if they have the talent to be a surgeon?

Saturated_Brain's avatar

@EmpressPixie Do you know whether they allow 15 year olds to go for internships?
@younganny Please give more details so that we can answer your question.

EmpressPixie's avatar

@Saturated_Brain: Depends on the position. Some people intern that young, but I believe it is unusual. Great point though—@younganny, you could try being a Candy Striper. Or talk to your school about being able to job shadow a surgeon.

They still have candy stripers, right?

younganny's avatar

@empresspixie: good answer and thanks for staying on tasks( not trying to be smart most ppl will answer with a question and talk about other stuff)

Take a comparative anatomy class. You could take one over the summer at a local community college if your high school doesn’t offer it, or just wait till college. Also take a lot of biology and chemistry classes. If you’re not stellar in those subjects you’ll never make it through premed in college and then medical school, whether or not you may have good technical surgical skills.

At 15, probably the only things you can do is see how you feels about science and math classes, because they will become your life, and if you do good in them and they enspire you then you might be on to something.

You might consider doing volunteer work at your local hospital and get a feel for it. It is necessary to be tops in most of your classes, especially science related classses. If you are making less than B average, you probably are not looking at the right career choice.

Like the previous post touched on, if you don’t enjoy being in a hospital setting around sickly people than it might not be for you. Also, if your unable to dedicate yourself and make very good grades on the important subjects like Anatomy and other sciences (Things like english and languages or w/e don’t matter so GPA isn’t a good way to tell) than it’s probably not a good idea because that should tell you that it’s not your passion or even something you are good at and no one wants a Surgeon who might kill someone O.O
