Is there anyway to prevent furniture and rugs moving over time on hard floors?

Asked by limeaide (1921points) September 27th, 2009

I installed a wood laminate floor a couple years and ago and it’s been great. Problem is the kids ages 2 and 4 are now much more mobile. The furniture and rugs keeps getting scooted around. Not dramatically just a little bit here and there. It’s not that big of a deal but both our coach and chair recline. Most of the time you go to sit down and you have to get back up to move the furniture away from the wall so that you may recline. What are some ways I can keep the furniture in place? Thanks!

You can buy non-slick pads to go under rugs. As for furniture, I’m sure there must be little adhesive thingies to put under the legs, but I’m just guessing there.

You can purchase things like Self-Adhesive Furniture Pads to go under the legs of your furniture.

You need rug pads!

Not only will they keep the rugs in place, they make it a lot nicer to walk on (softer and smooshier) and they’ll protect the floor from the buttom of the rug scratching it and from anything that might get spilled on the rug.

BEEN HERE! Take a hot glue gun and squirt some puddles about the size of a quarter on a plate. Let them cool, peel them off, and them place one under each leg of the piece of furniture you are trying to keep stable. It will work great and the best part is, it is CHEAP! (and you will never be able to tell there is something under the leg.

Make sure they are cool before trying to pluck them off the plate…
