Can you share a small kindness someone has done for you?

Asked by SuperMouse (30845points) September 27th, 2009

I got home from work today and found that my front and back lawns had been mowed and edged by the teenage boys who live behind me! I had a torn rotator cuff and the lawn has been looking pretty rough so this was huge for me! Will you share a small kindness that really meant a lot to you?

My babysister comes and hugs me at random times.
Does that count?

My mom did something really nice today I think. The lady behind her in line at the drive thru starbucks was crying, and my mom paid for her stuff and then paid for the lady’s drink too. That would prolly make me feel a little better :)

My mom shipped some packages for me last week.

Our nephew is a contractor & we had him & his crews do the repairs on our hail damaged house last week. He did some extra things free of charge that wasn’t on the insurance estimate.

My closest girlfriends tell me I look fabulous and hot on email and facebook even when they have not seen me for months…makes me smile every time. We all do it for each other.

One night I got way effed up & my friend had a curfew of 11. She knew there was no way I could drive so she waited till I was okay & meanwhile she was crying, because she knew her mom would flip. It was soooo nice of her to do that for me! She took the punishment so that I would be okay!

We had about 400.00 stolen from us at the grocery store. It was all our food money for the month and we had just got through a horrible medical issue at the time. We mentioned the incident to some friends, just to get moral support and perhaps have people bring a bit of food over. One by one all our friends appeared with large sums of cash. We ended up getting the entire 400.00 back. It was very touching. They just gave it to us, no strings attached.

Today I found some gooseneck loosestrife in a bucket with lots of roots and lots of soil, dropped off by a friend who knew I had a big empty spot in my garden.

A wonderful Fluther friend sent Milo a funny card.

The other day, I had a huge headache at work. When I get in a lot of pain, I sometimes throw up. When I was swaying on my feet, my manager told me to go sit down in the back even though I’d had my break. She also gave me some advil for my headache. I felt so much better afterwards.

Just today a woman made it easy to break up with her. It was really weighing on me and it wasn’t a long term thing by any stretch of the imagination but she could have been nasty and she was gracious. We both realized it was best.

I ordered a bottle of perfume from someone online. When it arrived, it came in a gorgeous satin pouch with some nerds, scented makeup that I would have loved (color was wrong for me), and two samples of perfume. And tea, I think.

This is actually super typical of the BPAL community, but since I got that in the mail Friday, I thought I’d mention it. And it’s always awesome to get a little something extra in the mail.

@EmpressPixie I love when extra goodies come with packages! I once got a little card with “Hi, Beautiful!” on it. Generic of course, but it was still great =)

I helped a truck driver at work find a pizza place that delivered, and he brought me a couple of pieces of his pizza. He didn’t have to do it, and I wasn’t expecting it, but it sure tasted better than what I had originally brought for lunch that night.

I was once out really late. The trains had all stopped operating, and the buses which went near my house had all also stopped for the night. If I remember correctly I was out of cash so there wasn’t any chance of me taking a cab back home. I was freaking out and was actually contemplating walking all the way back home, something I was so not looking forward to.

I walked to the nearest bus stop and tried to read the bus info board to see whether any still-operating buses would go anywhere nearer to my home. I didn’t recognise any of the roads and was really starting to get worried. Just then I heard a voice, “Where do you want to go?” I turned to see an old man sitting on the seat. I told him where I wanted to go and explained my predicament to him. To my surprise, he actually got up to the board and started to see which buses I could take.

A few minutes later we saw a bus coming and he told me to hold on. I was even more surprised when he flagged the bus and started talking to the bus driver. After a while he called me on and told me that the bus driver would go to a spot quite near my home. It was so pleasantly unexpected and I was wondering how in the world I managed to get into this situation. The whole journey there was spent chatting with the man and the bus driver and finally, he dropped me off at a place I recognised.

I have never experienced something so kind-hearted from strangers and although I know that some may not be that pleased with me saying this, it really affirmed God to me.

I’m at this hotel and last night my bath lightbulb just popped, so I went down to the reception and asked if they had a spare. The girl left her desk and came up to fix it herself, but I said that was not necessary, if she just had a spare somewhere I could simply change it. She didn’t, so she offered to call the maintenance guy (11pm on a Sunday) and I said it’s fine, just let the guy rest and call him in the morning. She seemed to feel so bad about the lightbulb that she offered me an upgrade to the (bigger) room next door. The only thing she didn’t do was offer to hold a candle while I pee or something.

In most places I’d just get a “we ain’t got one” grunt.

My husband and I have one car at the moment, which leaves me stranded during the day while he is at work. Luckily my daughter has less than a ½ mile to walk to school, but when it is pouring rain it is not very fun. The other day as I walked my daughter to school in the rain and I said goodbye to her, a parent (that I hadn’t met yet) offered to give me a ride home. I thought that it was very sweet and kind of her and it put a huge smile on my face

@Jack79 She just wanted to get in that bathroom with you, LOL ’-)

Jack79's avatar

@jbfletcherfan you reckon? Well, I certainly wouldn’t mind, she was very cute. And even though she was on the night shift she was still smiling this morning when I woke up. I always admire that in a person. Oh and the lightbulb was fixed 5 minutes after I left my room. btw this is the cheapest hotel in Riga. I’m truly stunned.

@Jack79 well, you lucked out on that. Just keep unscrewing those light bulbs… ;-)
