Why do my contacts keep fogging up?

Asked by Facade (22937points) September 28th, 2009

I just started wearing these a couple weeks ago. Oftentimes, It’ll look like I’m seeing in “soft focus,” and I’ll have to blink several times to clear things up.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

It takes your eyes a while to fully adjust to wearing contacts. Give it some time, and your problems will likely clear up.

Because I am so spectacular, and you can’t stop looking at me?

@lefteh I wasn’t aware the adjustment period involved foggy vision, but OK.
@pdworkin no, that’s not it :P

My contacts always get foggy when my allergies are really bad, but I’ve also noticed that they fog up when I put certain kinds of lotion or sunscreen on my face. I think it has something to do with your eyes getting irritated enough that they produce a little extra gunk (technical term, I know), but probably not enough that you’d notice it if you weren’t wearing the contacts.

When it’s allergies, there’s not much I can do for it except put saline drops in every now and then to clear up the fog. If you do use lotion or makeup of any kind on your face, you might want to try not using it for a day or two and see if that helps – you might just need to switch to a different brand…

I use primer, oil control, foundation, and bronzer on my face lol. I thought I was careful about getting it into my eyes but I guess not. Thanks @sdeutsch

@Facade Sometimes it’s not even getting it in your eyes that’s the problem – I found that almost any sunscreen will fog up my contacts, just from the vapors coming off of it into my eyes. Not much you can do about that except try other brands until you find one that doesn’t make you foggy… Good luck!

Oh, I’d rather blink all day than change my products lol. But thank you for the suggestion @sdeutsch

No problem! You could try the saline drops too – at least then you can have a few moments of clarity here and there!
