What can I do to get rid of blackheads?

Asked by wickedbetty (371points) October 1st, 2009

I don’t have acne, but I have black heads. They bug me! What can I do to get rid of them, or at least make them less visible?

If you have blackheads, then you also have enlarged pores. There is little that can be done to tighten pores without going to an actual dermatologist I know, I have pores a truck could drive through The best thing to do with acne & blackheads is to change your diet.

A low glycemic diet has been shown to decrease breakouts

I have found it also help reduce sebum (the black stuff in your blackheads). Other things to reduce sebum are found at the link. Personally I think you’ll need one of these along with a good salicylic acid program like this one

Best wishes to you on clearing your skin!

@wickedbetty I forget to say, water (not soda) needs to be your friend. The more “flushing” you do, the less waste exits through your pores.

Biore pore strips maybe?

Get a blackhead clearing scrub, use it morning and night, use astringent afterwards.
And then there’s this… Don’t know how well it works though, I’ve never used it.
You also don’t need the same type of astringent, you can get the deep cleaning one or the sensitive skin one, if you’d like.

use a sandy/granular scrub in a steamy shower, the steam opens up your pores and the scrub will clean them out. at least this is what a dermatologist told me.

@PandoraBoxx – I’ve seen those around… how do they work? Have you tried them before?

Yeah.. the black head tool looks interesting… is it safe?

They work well and YES they are safe if used properly without over exerting pressure in one area.
