What the @ ?

Asked by froggy127 (78points) October 9th, 2009

since I’m new, I’m curious why there’s an ”@” symbol written before the names in peoples’ responses?

I’ll welcome you.

Now, if you’d like to reply to me, click on the @ and you’ll see what happens.

It means you’re directing the comment “at” a specific user. It’s a reply-to marker. It started as convention, and Fluther eventually adopted it as an official type thing. If you type ”@”, you’ll get a drop down list of people who’ve previously posted in this thread, for you to select the one you’re replying to.

Note that even when you direct a comment to a specific user via ”@”, it’s still visible to everyone. If you want to send a private message, click on that person’s username.

@Zen, @MrItty – Thanks. That’s pretty cool (And I’m getting the hang of this.)

Also, clicking on the @Name in someone’s reply will jump to that person’s last response in the question.
