What the hell just happened to Fluther? Am I out of the loop on something or do I have a virus?

Asked by ubersiren (15208points) October 9th, 2009

I just logged onto Fluther and there was a list above the normal questions that repeatedly said “You’ve just unlocked the ____________ award.” Each “blank” in the list was a different thing. One said I unlocked the PB&J award, another said I unlocked the somethinruther award… I clicked it off real fast because I thought it was a bug, so I don’t remember much else. Most of the list said the “Herman Melville award.” Is this some Fluther inside joke that I don’t know about or do I have a virus?

If it’s a virus, I’ve got it too.

No, it’s not a virus. Don’t worry, you earned merit badges for being a good community member.

I don’t think it’s a virus. But I hope these awards are redeemable for snacks.

it’s a new thing. we’re discussing it now in chat. after you reload the page, it’ll disappear. check your profile.

I believe it is a strain of H1N1. No one else I know on Fluther has noticed anything like what you have described.

Ok, thanks. Maybe I’ll peek in on chat.

@Facade : Oooh, snacks! Good thinkin’.

@pdworkin : hahaha…

It’s a new feature, awarding all the current members all our awards posthumously, or what is the word for catching up on the past awards?

peedub's avatar

@YARNLADY Ex post facto sea-leggage?

RedPowerLady's avatar

It’s not a bug. It’s a new feature. If you go to view your external profile you can see all your awards. You can be awarded the same award more than once.

@YARNLADY They have already added past awards.

This Link describes the awards.

There should be a shark jumper award for people who get a lot of lurve in their heyday, and then have a string of low-lurve answers.

dpworkin's avatar

Oh, if only some of them were posthumous! (Kidding, kidding, I kid, I jest.)

@YARNLADY: “posthumously”

I knew I was dead. Dammit.

I was just about to ask the same question. I can breathe a bit easier now that I know I’m not the only one.

ubersiren's avatar

@RedPowerLady : Thanks so much. How cute! I love it!

@YARNLADY : Posthumously? I sure hope not ;)

Ok, I get it now. I might have understood had I caught @gailcalled’s post first. I just didn’t know what to look for, I guess. Isn’t this a totally cute idea? I’m diggin’ it!

dpworkin's avatar

@ItalianPrincess1217 you mean it’s spreading?

The first time I saw it was on my iPod, it seemed like the list went on forever. I was very confused and I’m wondering why there isn’t a blog post about the changes.

prude's avatar

I got it too.
