Does anyone have any tips for living with ideopathic peripheral neuropathy?

Specifically, I have painful neuropathy in both lower legs and feet. The TENS system only seems to mimic the pain and intensify it rather than relieve it. Prescription painkillers help (even a small dose) but I don’t want to become addicted to them. It’s a 24/7 problem and at times almost unbearable. Anyone else with this affliction have any suggestions?
