Will a permanent pink hair dye still wash out?

Asked by justus2 (851points) October 14th, 2009

I use the manic panic hot hot pink brand on my hair, my problem is when I take a shower it washes out and sometimes stains. Plus I don’t like the fading, I want something not “semi-permanent” but permanent as in it doesn’t change until my hair grows out. I found this brand on E-Bay that is Lolane Cool and Easy Hair Dye Cream Violet Pink, my fiance said he was told that any pink will still wash out with every wash, but this says permanent not semi-permanent, so wouldn’t that be like those red dyes and stuff that doesn’t wash out and stays until the new hair grows?

Pink fades really quickly. Red, not so much. (It’s not so much that permanent pink dye washes out (although it does) as that it fades and loses vibrancy.)

Although Special Effects is listed as semi-permanent, the pictures would suggest otherwise.

(I have used pink and red hair dye before; the red retains its vibrancy for months; the pink faded after a few weeks. Same brand, too.)

Your best bet is to get a professional dye job and quit doing it yourself at home.

Are you more concerned with the (admittedly disturbing) sight of seeing your hair dye wash down the drain, or the actual color fading?

Some of these photos are taken weeks later and are still eye-searingly bright. (Special Effects dye over (mostly) bleached hair)

I think that both the special effects and the manic panic will not be as bright unless you bleach first.

Also, I’m not sure buying from that company in the ebay listing is the best idea…for one thing, shipping is more than the actual dye; for another, the dye originates overseas, where safety protocol may be more lax (I’m not sure).

If you want to go with something “permanent”, why not try one of the Wella product lines, called Magma? Your hair salon or Sally Beauty can probably order it for you, if you can’t find it in stores.

ever thought of shaving your head? it’ll grow back out in a few months, and viola, no more pink.

@BBSDTfamily I think you mis understood the question, this had nothing to do with getting it professionally done, I used to and then couldn’t afford it and my fiance did just as well as her, that isn’t the problem, my question is if a permanent vs semi permanent will still wash out every time I take a shower.

There is no such thing as a permanent colour such as pink. I think someone might be trying to con you. All you can do is keep putting it in or try and find one that you can have in your hair a bit longer such as a red.
