What's a good stereo?

Asked by bob (3223points) December 21st, 2006
I'm looking for a suggestion for a "mini system" or "micro system" stereo for my girlfriend. I'm looking for good sound quality on the cheap. Massive sound isn't important. CD player and FM tuner are essential.

If you want something on the smaller side, I've been very pleased with my "better than Bose-quality, cheaper than Bose-price" Cambridge Soundworks Radio...

(though I have the version sans CD)

The sound is great, as is the reception, and remote. And my iPod sounds great through it. But I'm sure there are lower cost alternatives.

Also, check ebay. Sometimes the manufacturer will sell refurbs directly on ebay, at great savings. That's how I bought mine, and it's been a champ.

No, Ben, you're a champ. Thanks for the suggestion, it looks pretty cool.

we in the theatre sound world refer to bose as an acronym: bring other sound equipment. i likewise have a high opinion of cambridge soundworks with regards to quality but inexpensive home audio.
