How do I get my dell inspiron laptop to let me view my DVD with the program that I want?

Asked by desiree333 (3219points) October 22nd, 2009

I have a Dell inspiron 1525 laptop. I just bought season one of True Blood and I started watching it, but the program I use (Media Direct) makes the disc skip, when I know for a fact that it does not skip in a regular DVD player. I want to use Windows Media Player, but whenever I open the program and go to play the disc, Media Direct automatically opens up and plays the disc. I don’t want to erase the program or anything, I just want to be able to choose which program I use to play my DVD’s. Help?

Download VLC player. You’ll NEVER need another video player after that.

Oh and what you can do, in most programs is:

Put the DVD in. Close the prompt that comes up.
Open up your program of choice.
File -> Open -> Open DVD (Or something similar should be listed).

Well, you may try this, I do it on Windows XP.

1. Right click on your DVD and click Autoplay. Then, select from the list if there’s what you want.
2. If you can locate the file, right click it with the shift key pressed, it will show “Open with…”, choose program, then select the one you want if it is there in the list; if it’s not, then browse and locate it. (Many times, you need not press the shift key when right clicking, but if the open with…doesn’t show up, you may use it).

NEVER buy dell again, but for now you can wipe the HDD to get rid of their ads & spyware,, reinstall a non Dell sponsored version of the Operating system and try again.
I too would recommend VLC :-)
