Where should I study abroad?

Asked by ish1212 (163points) October 26th, 2009

I’m open to a variety of experiences and want to explore the world.

If you have lived anywhere interesting or have actually studied there let me know what you think.

Is there a particular language you would like to become fluent in, that might sway your choice?

Tokyo is awesome if you like cities. Spain would be high on my list also, even though I have never been. Italy is fantastic too, the food is not to be believed and the people are great.

Japan.
(provided you can get the monbusho scholarship to cover your living experiences)

Japan has an excellent train system (so transportation is covered).
And it is a very interesting place.

I studied at uni there for 3 years. It will change your world.

but in general, where ever you decided to go, go. studying abroad will change your view of the world.

Try Hooters. Plenty of broads to study there.

I’m from Sweden but I decided to do my undergraduate in Canada. Many people don’t know that education is free in Sweden, so that could be an option. Many undergraduate courses are in English and most graduate courses are in English (they want to attract an international crowd). Things are changing and the government will end the free education it has been said, but so far courses are free. All you have to pay for is the visa, course literature, a place to stay, food etc. And they will want to see that you have sufficient funds to support yourself. I believe the same goes for Norway and Denmark. Maybe even Finland. And they’re all beautiful countries.

Have you talked with your school to see if they have partnerships with schools in other countries? My uni has a partnership with a university in Japan that offers a condensed language program during the summer—it’s relatively inexpensive and offers 6 credits that are guaranteed to apply towards my degree. They also offer a semester-long exchange program with one of the smaller/less-well-known universities in Japan, with applicable classes and an accessible price point.

I think many universities have a partnership like this; if you aren’t picky about where you want to go, I suggest speaking with your Office of Student Exchange and Study Abroad (or whatever yours is called). If you’re in highschool…I don’t know what to tell you.

I have not yet had the chance to study abroad, but both my sister and my friend both went to France for a semester. My sister was in Paris, my friend in Montpellier. My sister loved Paris and its chic atmosphere. My friend didn’t have as great a time in Montpellier, one reason being that there were so many strikes that she rarely actually had class. Apparently striking is pretty common in France, so if you are considering going there, it probably would be more of a cultural thing than an academic trip, if just because of that.

I studied abroad in Berlin for 3 months and traveled around parts of Europe. One of the best experiences of my life.

Berlin for the win IMO.

Is there a particular language you are seeking mastery of?

Spain was absolutely perfect. Madrid is gorgeous and very metropolitan, though I might prefer Barcelona. Somewhere in the Basque country would be amazing, perhaps San Sebastian.

go to france, education there is also very cheap, and french is used around the world more than most people think. But if you have a particular language you want to learn, then go to that country instead.

In Germany some states charge €500 per semester in others it’s only €50. Despite all the criticism I think Germany still offers some of the best universities in Europe. If you’re looking for ivy league try Cambridge or Oxford in the UK.

There are many factors that you should concentrate… One important factor is the academic score that you should and the average score needed to gain admission in a reputed institution.
Secondly it is the financial front. Today the internet provides a wealth of information to students who wish to study abroad. Anyone who seeks information on going abroad can search the respective university’s website for all facts especially the ones relating to fee structure and living expenses
