When you take a shower do you wash the bottoms of your feet?

Asked by IBERnineD (7324points) October 30th, 2009

I always have and I was just taking a shower, and I remembered a discussion I had with an ex during a shower. He noticed I washed the bottom of my feet and looked at me weird. We got into a discussion.
My reasoning is that I’m taking a shower, I am cleaning myself, the bottoms of my feet are part of my body, why wouldn’t I? His reasoning for not washing them, was that soapy feet are slippery, and falling in the shower is dangerous, they will get cleaned by the suds that hit the shower floor.
During my shower I slipped while washing the bottoms of my feet, and thought I would ask my fellow Jellies.

No. I tried to once, but it made them very slippery and I had a difficult time standing in the shower.

Of course. I’ve never slipped or fallen. Maybe I just have incredible balancing abilities

dphhaas's avatar

i do every time. i do a lot of hiking for work and if i don’t scrub them they’ll start to smell. i haven’t noticed it being any more slippery than just having suds on the bottom of the shower.

@Facade I think I do too, thank god for dance, otherwise I would probably be dead.

I have a handheld shower head, which I let hang instead of putting it back up into the hook. It’s because I’m lazy, but also, because when I wash the bottoms of my feet, it’s at a good level for me to just stick my foot in front of it to rinse the soap off before I put my foot down, so it’s not slippery anymore.

gggritso's avatar

Yeah, always! They may be getting cleaned by the suds flowing down, but they’re also soaking in all the dirt that’s flowing off the rest of your body. I usually just scrub ‘em real good and swirl ‘em a bit in the water before stepping down firmly. So far so good.

aprilsimnel's avatar

Yes. It’s a natural progression for me. Tops of feet, between toes, bottoms of feet. Sorted!

When they are muddy, I wash them, but my shower is not very convenient, and there’s no place to sit down, and I’m not good at hopping around on wet porcelain in order to get at the bottoms of my feet.

gussnarp's avatar

I always wash my feet. I give them a little swirl in the water flowing down the tub until they don’t feel slick before I stand on them. I’ve slipped before, but never due to soapy feet.

I always clean the bottoms of my feet. My girlfriend makes fun of me for it too. Got to keep ‘em clean, ya know!

JLeslie's avatar

Yes. That is the last thing before turning the shower off.

hungryhungryhortence's avatar

Yes I do and always have some specific brush or scrubby for them. Part of me relaxing at the end of a workday is to wash my feet, slather on lotion and then pull on soft cotton bootie socks.

hearkat's avatar

Always! Like @gussnarp, I rinse them until I can get traction. I also use the pumice to really scrub them about once a week… I like to keep them fresh, clean, soft and smooth. :-)

I wear boots 12 hours a day, so I scrub the bottoms of my feet with the shower pouf to get rid of dead skin cells. My only problem is that I’m so darn ticklish. The gyrations from tickling myself standing on one foot on a slippery surface is dangerous.

Yes, my whole family thinks I’m weird unique.

pinkparaluies's avatar

I was the bottom of my feet. But thats when I take a bath. That sounds so gross as I type it.

Bluefreedom's avatar

When I shower, I wash my entire body. That includes the bottom of my feet and the bottoms of the feet of whoever might be in the shower with me at the same time.

JLeslie's avatar

@hearkat do the bottoms of your feet tire or hurt if you stand or walk a long time?

Dr_C's avatar

Always do. Also props for including the tandem shower reference. It’s always more fun to do with a partner.

You guys are going to think I’m weird, but I can NOT STAND to wash my feet! I don’t use a wash cloth, and rubbing slippery, soapy hands on my feet gives me chills like fingernails on a chalk board!

I wash the bottom of my feet. I wear sandals most of the time and my feet get dirty, including the bottoms, so I wash them. I have never yet fallen in the shower or the tub.

I have had problems with my feet my whole life, and have undergone four foot surgeries. I have to keep my feet clean or they bother me.

Val123's avatar

@Bluefreedom I’d probably kick you!

Bluefreedom's avatar

@Val123. I’m just trying to be friendly while keeping others well scrubbed at the same time. Cleanliness is next to Godliness after all…... =)

casheroo's avatar

Guess I’m a lazy person, but I never really do unless they have dirt on them..usually during the summer time.

Allie's avatar

Yeah, I wash the bottom of my feet. I wash every inch of my body.

Sarcasm's avatar

I barely ever wash them.
It’s something I don’t even think about most of the time.
The few times I do it, though, it’s stupidly awkward. Standing peg-legged on a slippery floor while I have water pelting me. All while the foot that’s being washed can’t stop twitching because of how sensitive/“ticklish” it is.

Anyway, my feet are always covered by socks and shoes (I do not go sockless even in my own house. I never wear sandals or variations thereof). And they get a little cleaned by the body wash and water that just flows past it.

Grisaille's avatar

Yep!

Luckily for me, my shower is equipped with one of those old-people handle thingymabobs (shut up, it was installed when I got the place and is damn useful), so slipping isn’t an issue.

Psychedelic_Zebra's avatar

yes, but remember, more people are killed by accidents in the shower than any of the really scary things, like snake bites, black widow bites, bee stings or choking on ink pens.

evegrimm's avatar

I wash them, but it’s more a scrubbing action (with an ancient nail brush) with a bit of soap.

Crocs + bare feet = dirty feet!

Or if they’re itchy.

I’m veryveryvery ticklish, so I have to be careful about washing my feet.

rooeytoo's avatar

jeeez I had no idea, maybe I am a slob and don’t know it. I don’t think I have ever washed the bottom of my feet. I just assume they get clean from standing in the soapy water in the shower. I wash the tops but not the bottoms.

Maybe that is why people give me a wide berth when they go around me?????

knitfroggy's avatar

I am prone to athlete’s foot for some reason, so I always wash my feet really good, especially in between the toes. I give the bottom of my foot a swipe while I’m at it.

avvooooooo's avatar

I always wash the bottom of my feet, but then I make sure to go back and forth on the bottom of the shower while holding on to make sure to get the soap off. If I’m in one with a grate-like drain I’ll use that to kind of scrub to get all the soap off. Needless to say, I clean that drain like that at my house well. :)

Judi's avatar

I scrub them with a pumice stone!!

ItalianPrincess1217's avatar

I don’t go crazy but I do quickly swish my pouf sponge over them just for piece of mind.

augustlan's avatar

Always. Every. Last. Inch. must be clean. :)

Val123's avatar

@Bluefreedom Get out of my shower! Cause I ain’t God and I don’t want you next to me!

bricklayer's avatar

yep, and i find it easier to slip before i have washed them.

josie's avatar

Yes. I have this creepy little object that looks like a footprint that sits on the bottom of the shower. It has this knobby surface, and you sort of step on it and move your foot back and forth. Got it as a gift, but it works.
