Drink more water. Seriously. Drink a lot of it. It will help you to not lick your lips.

Aquaphor. Put it on overnight – it’ll make a huge difference. Promise.

Vaseline overnight

Rub sugar on your lips, and then rinse it off after a couple of minutes.

@showmemyopp1 you’d be surprised

Careful about lip emollients. They can have a rebound effect as your body stops producing its own emollients.

What is aquaphor?

dpworkin's avatar

(The e-word just means soothing substances.)

Make sure you do not lick your lips – it makes them so much worse.

The sugar works as an exfoliant to get the dry skin off.

showmemyopp1's avatar

How does ur body produce them?

dpworkin's avatar

Lil elves in the emollient factory in your tummy.

I get really chapped and dried out during the winter, so I try to drink a LOT of water. Like, at least a gallon a day.

Beta_Orionis's avatar

burt’s bees is the balm

Honestly, it’s the only chapstick/lip balm that’s ever helped me. Mmm peppermint!

Drinking more water won’t help, unless you are actually dehydrated, I mean thirsty all of the time. They have shown oer and over again that once you are hydrated and start needing to pee all of the time, you aren’t adding more water/hydration to your skin. I am not saying it isn’t good to drink water to help flush your system/kidneys of toxins in the body and to avoid kidney stones, but it isn’t going to help your lips if you are already taking in sufficient fluids.

Put vaseline on your lips at night before bed to heal them, or you can also buy products to moisturize and heal lips from cosmetic counters. Chanel used to have a very good one, I don’t know what they have now, but I would try the vaseline first, much less expensive. Then use chapstick during the day to keep them protected. Don’t lick your lips.

Personally, I now stay away from vaseline since it is a petroleum-based product*. I stick with Bert’s bee balm and simply slather it on when necessary during the winter.*

I just realized I assumed the OP is a man, but if you are a woman just put on lipstick, not gloss and not a lipstick that has special plumping or staying power, at night when you sleep and during the day it will help tremendously. If your a guy you can put on the lipstick at night, you might prefer it to vaseline, and it will help a lot.

I am on a medication to heal my acne and it causes excessive dry skin and lips. The best lip balm I have found is MAC lip conditioner. It costs around $15 but it is clear and it makes them smooth and soft.

I like the Burt’s Bees stuff. I had a lot of trouble finding something that I liked, but this is it! They make various products that really soothe in both female type glosses and several regular balms including medicated and sunscreen ones.

This happens to us in the winter, we try to keep well hydrated and installed a whole house humidifer (seems to have helped with all of my skin dryness). I also apply burts bees a couple of times a day.
