Do you know this sandwich?

Asked by kruger_d (6231points) November 3rd, 2009

Lurve to erichw1504 for reminding us it’s Sandwich Day. I am trying to figure out if this sandwich is local invention. I call it a funeral sandwich because we always have them at funeral receptions when I was a kid. Whole wheat, open-face with Cheez Whiz and three slices of green olive, sliced diagonally into triangles. Nobody here has heard of them. If you have eaten them, tell me where.

No – but if you hum a few bars maybe I can guess….

I don’t know them in the biblical sense, but I’ve seen them once or twice.

Sounds like a form of church lady food. By church lady I am not referring to Enid Strict, but the actual ladies who make jello molds with vegetables, and escalloped potatoes for all church occasions.

Cheez Wiz doesn’t seem to be all that popular anymore. In our area it has been replaced with egg salad with the requisite green olives.

OMG, I just checked your profile and realized you are from North Dakota. Does North Dakota have as many jelly molds as Minnesota does?

@Darwin
Yah, you betcha. I now live near International Falls, MN. It’s pretty much the same as potlucks go.

@kruger_d – Then you know for sure what I mean by church ladies and jello molds.
