Where should we go for Spring Break?

Asked by Supergirl (1696points) February 9th, 2008

My husband and I have a week off for Spring Break, first week of April. He loves golf and good weather, I love spas and laying by the pool. Any thoughts? We don’t want to break the bank, and want to stay in the US.

If you research a bit you’ll find both in Palm Desert CA (adjacent to Palm Springs), also Vegas and surrounding towns…don’t know where you live so not sure how much for airfare…

Last spring break, my GF and I went to Sanibel Island about an hour south of Tampa. It’s one of those places you might see in one of those travel magazines (I think it’s actually been in several) because they’ve managed to stay the hand of the developers.

Florida has more golf courses than any other state (so I’ve been told), and as a gift last year, I took her to a nice spa on the island. We even rented a tandem bicycle (it’s the best way to see the island). And, since you’re going during the Spring Break season, it’s also a good place to get away from those pesky spring break kids.

CALIFORNIA
Wine, spas, golf: It’s not the Napa Valley, it’s Livermore
So, abracadabra, they’re off to Livermore – not the first destination to roll off the tourist’s tongue, to be sure, and maybe it’s best kept that way. Just 18 miles east of Oakland and an easy 35 miles from San Francisco, the Livermore Valley is a great place to get away from it all without really going anywhere
Last year Hughes moved the spa into its own building and added two rooms and a conference center. A swimming pool and two hot tubs are set in the adjacent olive orchard, with a large net for golf nuts like Hughes to practice swings; she will even arrange for lessons on request.

Where should you go for spring break? Belize, the only English speaking country in Central America! Belize is called, “The best kept secret in the Caribbean”. Beautiful tropic isles that make “paradise” too small of a word and deep dense mountain rain forest adventures. Belize is home to the Western Hemisphere’s longest barrier reef and is Central America’s most forested country at 50% coverage. Belize protects 40% of their land area in nature preserves, biological reserves, wildlife sanctuaries and marine reserves. You can relax with some reggae tunes in bustling, lively towns or on completely uninhabited islands (cayes), do some fantastic dives (walls, channels, barrier reef, caves, the Blue Hole, night dives), snorkeling is great for beginners or pros, see amazing Mayan temples and cave burial sites, discover a myriad of wildlife, take nature safaris in to primary growth rain forest (ceiba trees 30 feet at the base!), see the tallest waterfall in Central America and other magnificent mountain cascades, go on sailing adventures, watersports of all categories, see manatees, crocs, sharks, rays and/or whale sharks on spotting tours, go cave tubing down crystal clear mountain rivers, zip lining in the canopy, speed boat through narrow mangrove channels or take open cockpit ultralight tours – kitewingadventures.com – over the reef, jungle and ruins tasting the adventure. Cancun is crowded, has nothing to do except sit in your resort. Costa Rica can’t compete with Belize’s reef and marine reserves, the Caribbean Isles are isolated and over priced with little or nothing to do inland. Belize has all! Read up on it a bit. You’ll be glad you did.
