Is there something you wish you were better at?

Asked by Val123 (12734points) November 5th, 2009

I wish I was better at house cleaning. I mean, I get the job done, but I just hate it so much that….well. Some people just love cleaning house and as a result their houses are always spotless. I’ll get mine spotless in the event of pending company, like Santa Clause. But other than that I just keep looking the other way for a couple of days longer than I should. I wish I could walk into every room in my house and go, “Wow. This is so nice!” Meh. :(

Mine is less of a physical action like cleaning house. I wish I was better at letting things go and not dwelling so much on old happenings.

You know when you walk into a room and then totally forget what you came in there for and you stand there trying really really hard to think of what it was…I wish I were better at that.

cyndyh's avatar

Oh, wow. Where to even start! I wish I was better at just about everything I do. Some of them I’m actively working on and some of them -oh, well.

I second housecleaning. Actually i’m good at it I just despise it.

I also wish I was better at small talk. I am really quite horrible at it, IMO anyhow.

Is unprocrastination a word?

aprilsimnel's avatar

Bass playing.

Val123's avatar

@Ansible1 Best thing to do is look in the fridge!! LOL!
@RedPowerLady I’m good at it too…how can one be “bad” at it?! Maybe that’s why I hate it so much. It’s mindless and I hate mindless things.

Val123's avatar

@erichw1504 Since this is my thread I say yes, unprocrastination is a word. I wish like hell my husband had that problem.

@april ROFL!!

erichw1504's avatar

@Val123 It’s frizzer.

RedPowerLady's avatar

@Val123 lol i love mindless but I still hate cleaning, it just wasn’t enforced when I was a child so I never developed that naturally knack for it, i really wish I had that. But in terms of being “bad” at it, well you’ve never met my siblings, ugh!

Playing the gee-tar. I’m working on it, though.

yes, I wish I was better at housecleaning and having it organized…my kids sometimes invite a friend over without me knowing ahead of time and jeez its embarassing…what a mess I am…also I wish I was better at cooking…thinking what to make, actually trying to enjoy it….we now have a puppy, do you think that will force me to be more organized? or maybe it gives me an excuse…..

Believing I am actually good at anything. Most people seem to have a specific thing they are good at.. music, art, maths etc, something tangible (sp?) but I don’t seem to be good at anything in particular. So I guess I’d just like to be good at something interesting OR be good at seeing what I am good at.. if that makes any kind of sense

Making decisions. I’m very indecisive.

Writing. I really envy people that can compose their thoughts in a clear, concise manner. I don’t make too many spelling mistakes, but my sentence structure is horrible, and my punctuation can be downright embarrassing. When I write answers I spend the majority of my time on format rather than content (ratio is probably 80/20). I spent close to 10 minutes on this answer alone. I’m fairly intelligent, just can’t get the words to come out correctly.

Val123's avatar

@erichw1504 Frizzer! Of course! How thoughtless of me!
@Chrissi85 Aw man! What do you like?
@jonsblond You sure about that?
@FutureMemory Hmmm…maybe…well, maybe try talking out loud, saying what you want to say, and typing as you go? That’s a good thing to do. Read what you wrote out loud so you can tell if it’s flowing or not…..

SpatzieLover's avatar

Saying NO! I am a pleaser. I am working on this…but lately instead of saying no, i just procratinate on getting back to the person

jonsblond's avatar

@Val123 dammit! I’m not so sure now.

FutureMemory's avatar

@Val123 Thank you for the ideas.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@FutureMemory I say everything in my head both before I type it and during my typing the words

Val123's avatar

@jonsblond Hee Hee!!
@FutureMemory I do hope it helps.
@SpatzieLover Yeah, I find my self whispering to my self as I type. It also helps that I can type almost as fast as I can talk!

Everything I ever tried. Soccer, softball, volleyball, gymnastics, basketball, ballet, cheerleading, playing the piano and flute, drawing… granted I was decent at all of that, but I never really tried. Maybe I’ll put forth some effort some day.

Oh! I could add singing to the list, but I can’t get any better at that until my voice matures. I sound like a 10 year old :(

pinkparaluies's avatar

SEWING. Hopefully for Christmas I’ll get my hands on a sewing machine.

RedPowerLady's avatar

@pinkparaluies Got a gma? Mine stopped sewing so I’m “borrowing” hers. Hehe

pinkparaluies's avatar

@RedPowerLady My sewing Grandmother died ten years ago. Too sad to use her machine.

RedPowerLady's avatar

@pinkparaluies I’m sorry for your loss. I certainly understand how grief can do that to us. Do you think she would want you to use it?

pinkparaluies's avatar

@RedPowerLady I don’t think she’d mind. But I’m sure I’d break it in some way or another. I’m too sentimental, anyway ;)

RedPowerLady's avatar

@pinkparaluies Ya I already broke the needle on my gmas sewing machine and now have to replace it. Sentimental though makes sense to me. You know goodwill often has lots of sewing machines if you aren’t too shy to shop there.

Psychedelic_Zebra's avatar

drawing. I used to draw when I was younger, but gave it up when I found out how to express myself with words.

Val123's avatar

@RedPowerLady LOL! You make “breaking the needle” sound major, like, it’s gonna take weeks to get it fixed, and then only if you have the money!
I got my sewing machine at a garage sale. Once it figured out who was boss we started getting along pretty good.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@pinkparaluies I understand how you feel…my gma passed on over 20yrs ago. I just pitched her sewing machine 2yrs ago and haven’t had the heart to pick out a new on yet. I keep hoping the sewing machine fairy will drop one at the door one day :)

Val123's avatar

Anyone notice that all the sewing machines people have came from their grandmothers? LOL!

RedPowerLady's avatar

@Val123 Hey I’m a new sewer :( lol I just don’t have money to get the needle replaced not to mention I have to find the dang thing so they know which one to replace with. Ick.

Val123's avatar

@RedPowerLady (I’m choking! I so seriously read that you being a new sewer..you know, like where all the bad waste goes?! LOL! For a second, until I remembered what the discussion was I was going WTH???)
The needles are very inexpensive, and you get like 5 in a pack. And they’re all same! I mean, you can get different ones that do different things, but just get regular old needles!

RedPowerLady's avatar

@Val123 My grandmother told me I had to take the dang needle in to make sure I got the right kind and that they were not cheap. Maybe that was true back in her day, lol. Now maybe I’ll go get a pack so I can finish my dang curtains.

Hey you can’t call me a sewer (as in poo sewer) what the heck? LOL!

Val123's avatar

Huh! Maybe I should call my good friend Mary and ask her!!
2 minutes….................

RedPowerLady's avatar

@Val123 Poor Mary…. lol
