Where do I begin in building a monowheel?

Asked by sunya13 (169points) November 6th, 2009

the type where the rider is seated inside the wheel….

I would like to to be mainly pedal powered with a possibly electric assist like you’d find on some recumbent bikes

where do I begin…where can I get the giant tire and rim….and other various parts….

are there any experienced builders or riders in the Twin Cities that can help me in person????

thanks allot every one

I would get a huge tractor tire and a bunch of gigantic ball bearings, after that I would have to sit and think about it for a while.

well thank you @rooeytoo but that doesn’t seem very practical for a human powered vehicle…but with a larger combustion engine perhaps

I know exactly what you are talking about. Unfortunately, I don’t think you can buy a kit to make one. You are probably going to need to learn how to weld and make your own.

@johnpowel i kind if figured as much i have some friends that weld…but i still need to find a tire and tube big enough…or some other type of rubber tube to act as a tire

Step 1.- Buy a wheel.

I’ve had the same desire to build a mechanically monowheel ever since I saw Steamboy! I’m a bit too young and inexperienced to actually start, but I plan only making one when I’m capable. If you can, please share information about the materials you used and how you put it together.
