What can I do so I won't play on my itouch while I am in bed before I go to sleep?

Asked by Londonfrance (64points) November 9th, 2009 from iPhone

I play with my itouch in bed before I go to sleep and before I go to sleep I put my itouch on my night stand. Don’t tell me leave it in another room.

Keep it across the room on the charger. That way the alarm still works but you do not have access.

Ultimately you need to show self- restraint.

Haha you’re just like me. I do the same thing all night. I have no self control, I am sometimes up at 4am using it.

But I think about what will happen if I don’t wake up early the next day (if it’s a school day) and I turn it off. But I can’t do anything to stop it, it’s a matter of will power.

and this is a problem because?

Read a book. Turn the thing off. Will power is the key. You will only ever do it if you really want to do it.

GA @Dog!

@Londonfrance If after a couple of nights @Dog‘s suggestion isn’t doing it for you….NEW rule: NO iTouch in the bedroom. Put it in a desk drawer or by the door you exit in the AM and find a good book to read.

Once upon a time, a long long time ago, in a place not far away, but not too close by, there lived a little elf prince named Shmapunzel. Now this was waaaaaaay before there was anything to touch besides the thing you touch before falling asleep. The one thing that everyone touches – The I-Touch – when you touch yourself.

Now Shmapunzel had been given a new toy, a wooden gadget what-not, which kept him quite the pre-occupied little elf – playing with it so much he found he couln’t fall asleep. He would twist it and turn it, knocking out the pieces and putting them back together; oh, it was a brilliant wooden little game – the W-Touch, it was called, for some strange reason.

Well one night, while

Well, here I am at 2:41 am reading this question and I don’t really know the answer, I’ve been trying to find it for myself! But I’ll keep an eye on this to see if any ideas look like they will work for me.. ;)

Create rewards for yourself. So if you keep it in your room and manage not to touch it, the next day you will XYZ.

XYZ should be something that you do rarely, like trying an expensive bottle of wine or a special-flavor ice cream.

The same works for hard study before exams. Often the rewards can be small.

You could forget to take it out of your sweatshirt pocket before you do laundry like I did. That cut my usage down drastically.

Other than that this is up to you having some control.

I’m guilty of the same thing…

I just use it until the battery runs under 20%, then I’m forced to go to sleep.
