The Gadget-athon: what do you have?

Asked by J0E (13172points) November 10th, 2009

The world is becoming obsessed with gadgets. Laptops, netbooks, cell phones, media players, GPS navigators, and the list goes on and on. Have you withheld from the temptation of buying these incredible gadgets or do you have a stockpile of high-tech devices?

This is your chance to brag about the “stuff” you have. Whatcha got?

I’ll start:

I’ve got a Gateway Laptop, Targus Bluetooth mouse, Samsung slider cell phone, Apple iPod Touch 2g, and a Wacom Pen Tablet.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1420, a 3rd gen iPod Nano, a RAZR2, a Razer DeathAdder mouse and SkullCandy TiTan earbuds. And a very old pair of Sennheiser HD202s.

I have a sling psychrometer. That’s pretty much the only cool thing I own. Bet ya’ll don’t have one… :-)

J0E's avatar

@Les What are you, a meteorologist?

NewZen's avatar

I still listen to my 45’s.

aprilsimnel's avatar

I have two iPod nanos (both still used), an iPhone, a Nikon Coolpix 4800 (Nikon backtracked on features in subsequent models of this line, but charges more – go figure), a custom built desktop PC, an HP dv6325 Pavilion laptop, a Bluetooth headset and two Bluetooth USB wireless modems, a Canon MP360 printer and a Logitech universal remote where I can download all the controls for all my home theater components online.

All three of my old Palm Pilots and four previous mobiles are a-moulderin’ away one of my file drawers.

Les's avatar

@JOE – Yes.

J0E's avatar

@aprilsimnel Wow, you’re the winner so far.

markyy's avatar

I wish I had a computer, laptop or iphone like you guys, I can’t even access the internet.. anyway, mine’s bigger.

J0E's avatar

@markyy Can’t access the internet eh? There’s something fishy about that…

markyy's avatar

@J0E Oldskool baby!

I have a small stockpile. Average, I’d say, in terms of gadgetry…

A custom laptop (macbook – extra RAM and stuff), a rad cell phone (LG EnV – so much better than my previous Razr that I can barely handle it), an iPod (it’s a red shuffle engraved with “I dunno what it is but I gotta do it” – I live in a place where a big iPod is like advertising to be robbed), a digital SLR digital camera (canon XTi) with extra cards and batteries and lenses.

I also have some biology gadgetry (Yeah @Les – science gadgets are the bomb!). I have a GPS for field work (helps in finding lakes) and about 20 flatscreen computer monitors hooked up to two mac minis in my behavior lab. I don’t know if that last part counts as gadgetry, really, but it looks pretty sweet when they’re all hooked up and displaying my behavior videos. :)

J0E's avatar

@fireinthepriory 20 monitors!? holy crap

fireinthepriory's avatar

@J0E I do video behavioral trials on little fishies. I have ten fish tanks set up, each tank has a screen on the left and the right side. One mac mini is “left screen” and one is “right screen” and they’re hooked up in tandem to all the screens accordingly. It’s a FRENZY of cords in that place! It took about a day to set everything up properly… but it’s amazing to be able to run ten fish at a time instead of just one!

Edited to add: I forgot, there are also 10 digital video cameras in there, too, since I obviously can’t watch all ten fish at once… Yep, frenzy of cords. Walking in that room is a hazard!

I have several gadgets….not as many as some of you have, but my new favorite is my Bluetooth that I bought a couple weeks ago. I love that thing. I not only wear it while driving, but it’s handy around the house. I can talk & multi-task with other things.

erichw1504's avatar

iPod Touch, Dell Inspiron laptop, LG enV3, Nintendo Wii, PS2, Sega Genesis

erichw1504's avatar

This is a good question for burglars to visit and see what they can steal from your home if they can figure out where you live.

aprilsimnel's avatar

Oh, we’re counting that stuff? I’ve got a Sony 32” HD, too. Wasn’t sure if home theater components counted as gadgets.

@erichw1504, such ruffians would never make it into my building.

CMaz's avatar

I have an Align T-Rex 600 NITRO helicopter.

With a Futaba 9 channel 2.4 Gigahertz transmitter.

Doesn’t anyone go outside anymore?

erichw1504's avatar

@ChazMaz Where’s this outside you speak of?

patg7590's avatar

@ChazMaz do you seriously have a helicopter? that is sick

CMaz's avatar

Yes I do, It is pretty sick. ;-)

The outside… That place you come across when you walk outward and away from your home. :-)

virtualist's avatar

At work, upfrontandpersonal: I have a pocket steel metric ruler, a Leatherman pocket knife, a pocket Moleskine, a $.39 BIC ballpoint black, a Siemens giveaway laserpointer, a geiger counter, a DVR, and my BB Storm cell.

drdoombot's avatar

Did I hear there was a geek-thread going on?

Since I’ve been unemployed a while, some of my gadgets are kinda old:

Mac iBook G4 laptop
Custom-built desktop computer
Custom-built HTPC
Photo iPod 4/5g 60gb
Video iPod 5.5g 60gb
iPod Shuffle 1g 1gb
iPod Shuffle 2g 1gb
Palm Tungsten
Palm T/X
Compaq iPAQ PocketPC
Imitation Wacom Graphics Tablet (made in China and works nearly as well)
Motorola RAZR (5 years and about to crash)
Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote (maybe one of the best purchases ever)

and the gadgets I think most people don’t have:
Sony PRS-500 eBook Reader
LaCrosse BC-900 battery charger (the geekiest, most-versatile charger you can buy)

And just to gloat a little: I got every single one of those Apple products for free (back when sites like freeipods.com were hot and actually sent you stuff). And that Sony Reader was only $60 because I signed up for a credit card. It would have been worth it if I’d paid double that.

jeanna's avatar

I don’t have much; I really try to stay away from Apple products, but I do have an ipod shuffle that was a gift when they first came out. I have a toshiba laptop, brand new with windows 7 (looooove it). Nikon and HP camera, 2 blackberries, 2 bluetooths…..hmm. I’d say that’s it.

CMaz's avatar

You have no idea how much I want one of those!

I would never get off the crapper.

patg7590's avatar

@Judi poopin’ in style

aprilsimnel's avatar

@Judi, NICE! I didn’t even know there were such things!

Drawkward's avatar

Old timey 120 Gb Zune,
Fuji FinePix sd2000hd,
Fuji FinePix Z20fd,
gateway laptop, and if we’re counting my Xbox 360, that too.

patg7590's avatar

@Judi the ultimate hands free device

JONESGH's avatar

MacBook Pro
I have a car, does that count? They’re pretty hi-tech imo

Drawkward's avatar

@JONESGH Does it talk to you in an haute English accent, and get indignant when you make a wrong turn?

Dr_C's avatar

@Drawkward i have a girlfriend for that… no need for a talking car

aprilsimnel's avatar

@Drawkward – My roommate’s car has a GPS device that speaks to her in RP British! She calls him Daniel.

JONESGH's avatar

@Drawkward errr no. it’s a 1999 ha! but cars are hi-tech regardless.

drdoombot's avatar

@Judi I am sold on that washlet! My only fear is that after I get one, I’ll be incapable of using a bathroom anywhere but home.

andrew's avatar

@Judi I really think we should get Toto to advertise here, considering the number of Flutherites that have washlets.

Judi's avatar

@andrew if they saw how much free advertising they’re getting by word of mouth they would probably conclude they didn’t have to!

drdoombot's avatar

I think what @andrew really means is that he wants Toto to send him a free washlet for all the free advertising they’re getting here!

Skippy's avatar

Glad I looked at that link….I guess I’d have one, but I need indoor plumbing first (hahahah

Judi's avatar

my seat even opens and closes automatically!

markyy's avatar

@Judi Does it make a nom nom nom sound when you’re don? I would get one if it did!

Jack_Haas's avatar

I could open an electronics store with all the stuff I’ve accumulated. I still have something like 4 Motorola Star Tacs (2 US/2 EU) from 12–13 years ago, in drawers somewhere.

ratboy's avatar

@Judi: Thanks for the video. It cleared up some of my misconceptions—I couldn’t figure out why the drinking fountain was dispensing warm water.

rottenit's avatar

I have way too much, right now in my office alone I am looking at 4 cellphones, 3 laptops, 5 PC’s, 5 22” or larger LCD monitors.

A little voice inside my head keeps saying ” material possessions poison the soul”. (Think I learned that from a Simpsons episode.)

In the end it dosent matter how much you have, just make sure it enhances your life in a positive measurable way. Toss the rest.
