Pork Store cafe on 16th between misson and valenica. Greasy spoon, but the best biscuits and bacon in the city. I highly recommend the scralifornia.
lilakess's avatar
what if I don't eat pork?
occ's avatar
Kate's Kitchen on Haight between Fillmore and Waller. Beware the enormous portions: If you get the "French Toast Orgy" it is so huge that two people can't even finish it.
Supergirl's avatar
Chloe's in Noe Valley.
kfingerman's avatar
there's more than pork at the pork store...but why eat a full brunch when you could ditch eggs for the truly transcendent pastries at Tartine (18th at Guererro). Seriously, it's on another plane. Try the morning buns and bread pudding.
occ's avatar
and then stroll over to dolores park for some people watching
kfingerman's avatar
am I allowed to say "hi orli" in fluther?
kfingerman's avatar
this may be a problem
kfingerman's avatar
There needs to be a click on orli's name and go to a chat room function
ben's avatar
You are allowed...
ben's avatar
This is a crazy free for all, where everything goes
kfingerman's avatar
ok...but if I want to have a chat with the woman responsible for a democratic congress
kfingerman's avatar
without her nosey boyf peeking
kfingerman's avatar
and what if there are other people in here trying to actually talk about brunch?
ben's avatar
you need a different service :)
ben's avatar
good poind
kfingerman's avatar
but I just met her here, she's my brunch specialist
ben's avatar
I guess for now it should be more "on topic"
kfingerman's avatar
and I have a question
kfingerman's avatar
that she needs to clarify
kfingerman's avatar
I should be able to type to her, or email her (craig's list style)
ben's avatar
Righto... yeah, a lot of people are saying that
kfingerman's avatar
but we don't know the first thing about programming
kfingerman's avatar
if I could click on the green name, and type straight to obs, that'd would be useful
kfingerman's avatar
and would cut down on clutter
ben's avatar
good idea
kfingerman's avatar
this is fun btw
ben's avatar
glad you like it :)
andrew's avatar
It's a difficult thing, though, because then we have public AND private converstaions
kfingerman's avatar
true, but if people start askinng one another direct clarifying questions in the public convos you'll get the situation where you can't follow any one track
andrew's avatar
mmm... how do you mean?
andrew's avatar
like if you want to ask a question that's related?
kfingerman's avatar
well, say I'm looking at brunch places, and then someone says the pork store's good, but I wanna know if they have eggs benedict, but that's not really important to the other people who are more into tartine and it's trancendent morning buns
kfingerman's avatar
then I should be able to ask pork store lady without cluttering the page
kfingerman's avatar
there's alway the string model
kfingerman's avatar
where you can have further conversations linked under a part of one
andrew's avatar
that's a good point
kfingerman's avatar
with the outline style so they're usually minimized
andrew's avatar
right... or maybe we can color-code things
kfingerman's avatar
either you can click on the person and chat straight to them, or even better, you click on them for a "clarification" that would come up in their boxes on the rigth
ben's avatar
Interesting
kfingerman's avatar
then you get a sub-string and that line becomes, say blue, meaning I can click on it to follow it out of "good brunch places in SF", into "more on the pork store"
gse's avatar
fave brunch place: boogaloo's @ 22nd and valencia. food's awesome, people are friendly, place is cool. long lines if you're not a parent and there at 8:30am. i'm a parent and i get there at 8:30am.
kfingerman's avatar
otherwise, if there are enough people here to make this more than just fun, it'll be too cluttered to be useful
gse's avatar
get a room
ben's avatar
exactly :)
andrew's avatar
this is where the ascii porn kicks in
andrew's avatar
it's our "special feature"
kfingerman's avatar
warning...layman present
occ's avatar
warning: girlfriend present
gse's avatar
don't patronize me
kfingerman's avatar
how do things make it into my "questions for you" box?
kfingerman's avatar
I'm the layman
gse's avatar
oh. carry on then
occ's avatar
back to that breakfast conversation: if you can make it to the east bay, you must check out the Thai Breakfast near Ashby BART.
kfingerman's avatar
I wouldn't know an ascii if it kicked my ass (can they do that?)
kfingerman's avatar
ooooohhhh...ben! I should be able to put a "hell yes" check next to orli's answer without wasting valuable scanning space
andrew's avatar
that's in our next batch of features, rating answers.
andrew's avatar
we're still feeling out how best to guide this live-post/chat/ so we can balance simplicity, ease of information and live-ness.
kfingerman's avatar
I know what I'm looking for now... and then back to work. I need this page to be only actual answers to questions, but those answers should be further discussable without making the page unusable (as this one now is) so...I should be able to click on a string and ad to it in a way that you could see there more to it, but you'd have to click to expand
kfingerman's avatar
and while I like the idea of rating answers, I don't know that a rating system is necessary or would be used. I think just double click if you agree and it gets a star or something
andrew's avatar
It'll be a good/no comment sort of thing
kfingerman's avatar
yes, pork store is good...I don't need to give it (or moreover the assertion that pork store is good) a number of stars
andrew's avatar
no stars for questions.
kfingerman's avatar
If I wanna, then I double click and can add to the string under pork store, turning that answer blue to indicate that there's more under it if you're interested
kfingerman's avatar
if you're more into tartine, then there's no mess under pork store to distract you and bury the tartine rec in a pile of commentary on the morality of eating bacon
kfingerman's avatar
I click on the green name and get a drawdown that say agree, comment, etc.
kfingerman's avatar
good work you guys. I'm out and will be back
jmarcus's avatar
Luna on Castro b/n 18th and 19th. Great food, heated garden, cat.

Sears has the best pancakes i have ever had...ever!

It looks like a certain kfingerman is really dominating this discussion. But, if I may have a word in edgewise, I would suggest Mama's in North Beach. The omelette's are fantastic.
nomtastic's avatar
also, la note in berkeley. f-ing fantastic cuppa coffee and french toast.
nomtastic's avatar
and if you think that "brunch" might be equated with "adventure," the farmer's market at the ferry building on saturday -- sample your way through!
lily's avatar
La Note. holy crap. its amazing.
Abby's avatar

Hello all the people in this crazy conversation I know and love.

I agree that La Note and Boogaloos are excellent. Also Mama's in Oakland for the scene, the coffee mugs, rocking waitresses, and good omlettes.

And if you like southern food, the Chicken and Waffles place in Jack London Square. awesome any time of day or night.

Maybe its just because i know who some of you are but that was hysterical and made me smile so if you had to stay on point and not have silly side talk, you’d be missing out on people smiling. maybe you could have something where if you are trailing off you could click and trail over to a sidebar conversation thats still visible to anyone on the page but not getting topic oriented people mad.
i just realized that this topic is 2 years old and most likely you’ve cleared all this up anyway. but since i already typed all this, i’ll just go ahead and post it then. what the hell.

oh but also “weird fish” on mission is supposed to be amazing for brunch, though lately i’ve been dining at “craigs place” accross the st. from tartine even though i’m theoretically against it in principle. good veggie burgers.

There’s several places in lower haight.
