Pitted Morello Cherries in syrup, what can I make with them?

A jar of pitted Morello Cherries has mysteriously appeared in my kitchen. It would seem an unknown someone gave me aforementioned jar last Christmas…for the last year I have not noticed them sitting on the shelf. To be perfectly honest, their sudden appearance remains a mystery to me. Be that as it may, having never cooked with cherries before, only eaten them in their very edible raw state, I have no idea what to do with them although I did consider they might be good in a tart. Any comments, advice and especially recipes would be most welcome.
