Do new Architects find jobs easily?

Asked by f4a (601points) November 30th, 2009

Does one need to be good in Math when being an architect?
What do architect majors do? after you get your degree and passed the exam? do all students get a job as an architect? how about those who are not as good as the others?

Well I don’t know about the first part of your question but I do know for certain that you have to be good in math.

Yes, you do have to be good at math. The reason is that you have do be able to calculate the weight of the building and the amount of stress different components put on the building in order to know if it will stay up. If you are interested in architecture, an excellent way to find out about it is to attend the 6 week career discovery program that is held at Harvard each summer. The program gives you the opportunity explore the career and what it’s like to take studio classes.

Architects have a very vigorous academic program, and have a licensing exam that they must pass. Even with passing, not all students get jobs as an architect. There are different types of specialties within architecture, such as landscape architecture. Some return to school for a masters in architectural history or research. The field is very competitive. In addition to architecture, urban planning is a field that is related to architecture.

Architecture is very competitive and extremely demanding. Top schools like Harvard and MIT have programs that are probably more rigorous than any Medical School. A very difficult but very rewarding profession.
