I used the initials from my first and last name, both of which were easily shaped into semi-circles and together formed a nice circular logo. Try working with one or more of your initials, but don’t feel constrained by them…..many of the most recognizable logos contain no initials. See ya…..Gary/wtf

Ask yourself some questions,

what is your field of expertise?
what appeals to you?
what would you like to use your logo for?

And for the love of god, stay away from Comic Sans (and use just one font).

i will stay away from comic sans, as usual!
i would like to use initials from my first and last name, which are S and M: they are so different from each other! curve and straight: i am trying to make use of such a difference…to present myself! what do you think about?

Maybe place one of the letters on its side? I think initials always go well with a nice curly baroque font, but that’s entirely up to you of course (you’ve got to love your own logo, right?)

I might skip on using your initials if they are S and M. People might get you confused with a certain, erm, sexual preference.

gemiwing…i am not sure i’ve understand what you mean! S and M have any sexual reference? o.O anyway, i think this kind of reference is not clearly visible at first sight!!

@Flarlarlar
yesss of course i’ve got to love my own logo!! I think i want to use the difference between S and M to draw something which belongs to me..
i.e. drawing S and M with a continuous line and find a shape…

Flarlarlar's avatar

@nevrotique Too bad I haven’t got my drawing pad with me, but I understand what you mean ;)

@nevrotique I would google S&M but be aware it’s NSFW. Depending on how you do it, it could still work- it’s just something to keep in mind.

I agree with the dangers proposed by gemiwing! You could also make something that looks like a clothing tag and play off the size (Sm) in a way that wouldn’t draw the references to sadomasochism. With the clothing tag idea, you could have some sort of line drawing or use your first name with the “Sm” beneath it . . .

@Kayak8 That’s a great workaround- I like the Sm change.

I had a graphic designer come up with one for me with my initials. My only requirements were that it ended up in a art deco style and that there was some rusty, orange colours involved. The one I finally approved looks like this.

Grab a piece of paper and pencil and just go crazy on it, draw up anything and everything that comes to mind. Eventually you’ll see something you like and then you can refine it.

@gemiwing thank you, i could not think that S&M would take such reference to sadomasochism!! i keep it in mind!

@Kayak8 i like your SM-clothing theme! i’ll try work on it…let you know :)

Of course the text doesn’t really have to be the focus of your logo. It can be more graphical like the S&M Bikes logo (yeah, they don’t have an issue with it ;P).

If it’s a personal logo shouldn’t it represent you? Perhaps incorporate a favourite hobby or interest?

nevrotique's avatar

@sebastian_von_tulu
of course logo should represent me..but it should be easily reproducible and recognizable. so i tought to my initial letter…
but…these letters seems work not well in describing me..
maybe you’re right, i should focus on something else :/

sebastian_von_tulu's avatar

@nevrotique No, no. You’re right; your initials do represent you, they’re your name. You can make that representation stronger with a graphical interpretation though. It’s just a thought.
Sorry, I’m very tired, brain isn’t functioning.

@aprilsimnel I love your logo. And you have the same initials as the OP in reverse, and I didn’t draw any S & M conclusions from yours.

@nevrotique…..You might play with a bold, blocky “M” with a finer cursive “S” overlaid on it , both within the confines of the “M” but also trying a taller “S” that extends above the “M” or alternatively both above and below the “M” equally (the latter would provide balance and and give strength to the finer “S“to balance against the bold “M”). Also with the “S”, you have the option of using that as a dollar sign ($) if that works into the concept or idea you are trying to communicate. Have fun with it and good luck.
See ya…..Gary/wtf
