Could someone help me with my printer, please?

Asked by jbfletcherfan (13212points) December 2nd, 2009

I hate technical questions, but I’m desperate. I have an HP Deskjet 6940 printer. In the last few weeks, I can’t get into the service tab from the print preferences option. I can’t see my ink levels anymore. When I click on it, a little box comes up that says “this program can not perform this task” & that annoying piano chord plays. Everything else works good.

Something is obviously set wrong. Or what about drivers? HP does a check periodically on drivers & I keep them up to date. Does anyone have any ideas? I emailed HP lastnight & God knows if they’ll even respond.

I don’t know your particular model, nor can I diagnose the actual problem from here, but I can tell you what I would try if it were me: I would download a good free uninstaller, like Revo and use it on the software that came with the printer, in advanced mode.

Then I would go to HP’s site, and download the latest version of the correct utility for your printer, and reinstall.

Totally agree with pdworkin :)
Best way to solve this kind of problem is re-installing a driver.
simply uninstall your printer drivers (maybe a related softwares) and install the newest version downloaded from official website
