How should we run the Fluther Mixed Tape (CD) Christmas thingy?

Asked by jrpowell (40562points) December 3rd, 2009

A question a while ago prompted a idea to have a Fluther Christmas exchange of mixed CDs. Some details are here.

So far seven people are in. I’m looking for ideas on how to pull this off.

The main problem is what if a person doesn’t want to give their address to a certain person. Obviously we wouldn’t want the other person to know of the rejection.

I’m looking for ideas about ideas about how run this. Any Ideas about how to run this thing would be appreciated.

And send me a PM(comment) or edit or comment on the wiki page linked above to get added to the list.

Would anyone object to running it through a central hub? You could mail them to me and I could mail them out. Allie could do it too. She is less likely to steal your TV while you sleep.

It would keep your address kinda safe. Safer. (and safer is a nerd thing :-)

Hey, I want in on that, I think.. what are we supposed to do?!?

Anyway, I think you (as the initiator) should not have to take on the responsibility if this is an issue for someone. Sure you could have everyone send their stuff to you so you can send it to the others, but let’s be honest, that’s just time consuming and expensive.

If one of the participants is serious about joining but still wants to remain anonymous they can take measures for themselves, a P.O box, a temponary address, or make arrangements to receive their mix cd digitally (via 8tracks.com for example).

Is there any way to simply upload the tunes so we can download and burn the CD or just put in in our iTunes ourselves?
Using real mail is so antiquated…

I want to get a male in the mail, but I do not know how to burn a CD (so 20th century)!

I was thinking the other day that I’d prefer not to get a bunch of mail addressed to Pete the Pothead.

I would be fine having you or Allie mail them, if you wouldn’t mind doing that.

Maybe instead of groups of five it could be scaled back to groups of three. That sounds more manageable, and less expensive.

Thinking the same Pete.

The mail is part of the fun. You actually need to move to send it. It shows that you care.

Not everyone has iTunes…
We have a P.O. box, and I’m not too paranoid about my regular address anyway.
I like the idea of a central place.
I’m up for anything though.
I’m just excited to make mixes.
I’ll also lurve you forever if I get a mix tape. That’s all the tractors have, and my only working cassettes are Nsync and Garth Brooks.

Good idea but I’m out (It would cost me anywhere between $16.35 to $57.35 each)

I don’t see why you have to use snail mail. The thought and care is in finding a mix of songs that you think the person will like, not mailing it.

But yeah, everyone sending there stuff to a central hub would work best.

@J0E Because nobody ever gets mail and this is a good excuse to. :D

I love getting mail. I am totally stoked when I find a package for me in the mail.
But I am the world’s biggest flake when it comes to mailing stuff. It is so bad I took on a business partner with my art so that product gets out on time. I am totally serious- pathetic huh?

That being said I may still jump in on this using snail mail because it really is a fun idea. :)

I’m interested. I have a PO Box and am fine with receiving snail mail, but if a central location is better for most than that works too.

Mixed tapes are always fun.

Sounds good to me but I am all for 3 instead of 5, but I will go 5 if that is the majority’s wish. I have po box but it doesn’t really matter to me. No one could find me out here anyhow, heheheh.

We could send all five (or three) to one location and have them stamped and ready to be addressed and put back in the mail. That would minimize the work and expense involved in shipping. I would volunteer to do this except that my mailbox is not so secure (stuff gets stolen sometimes) and I don’t have a P.O. box.

Also, here is a link to a simple “random group generator” excel file. I was going to make one, but this one is already online :)

@johnpowell tried to edit your wiki page and add myself as a interested party but when I tried to edit all I got was Black Ass

Is this something wrong at your end or does my wife like big buts

Managed to edit it now

@Marina: If you send me a song list, I’ll burn it and send yours in. :)

@RareDenver: I was directed to a website of people of… indeterminate sex. Interesting.

Ryan, you are the leader. What’s the final decision?

I’ll be posting my CD from the UK, will it get to the person in time for Xmas if they are in the US?

I don’t even know where to post it yet.
