What can I do for extreme pain having to do with bladder issues?

Asked by sjmc1989 (5499points) December 3rd, 2009

Since I was 15 I have had bladder infections one right after the other. I have been put on antibiotics and was also prescribed ditropan for urgency. I have cut back on soda and been drinking water but I keep having awful spasms and sometimes when I sit if I don’t sit down softly it will send a shooting pain in the bladder area. The pain is so bad that it takes my breath away. Has anyone else experinced this and can anything be done about it?

Can the medical field do anything to help you?
As a young kid I had some type of bladder problem or infection. I remember being in the hospital. They did something and I haven’t had problems since.

Also do you know what the underlying cause is of the bladder infections?

@RedPowerLady I haven’t seen a specialist about it but I did go to my family doctor for the spasms and he prescribed me ditropan and it did nothing for me since it is mostly for urgency he said there was nothing really for bladder spasms. I find that hard to believe but what do I know. So now the spasms are more frequent and now it a shooting pain this has been for months now. I just don’t know what to do.

Go to a smarter doctor. I’ve given pts anti-spasmodics for bladder spasms. I’m going to google it for a memory jog.

@sjmc1989 Agreed with @faye Go to a different doctor. Yours is treating the symptom and not the cause. You need to figure out what is causing this to happen so frequently. GP’s (general practitioners) usually have a lot of broad information but not enough specific information. Go for the specialist if you can afford it, if not pressure you doctor to figure out the cause.

A prolapsing bladder will cause all kinds of discomfort and needs to be taken care of to prevent dribbling etc. Drink more water than you are used to to keep it flushed tonight.

@RedPowerLady and @faye Yes I agree with you on finding a different doctor I have the sneaking suspicionhe barely made it through medical school and usually I end up diagnosing myself.

@faye I will look into that medicine. Thank you so much!

@RedPowerLady Oh yes I am not sure why it has gotten progressively worse but I used to forget to go to the bathroom I would just start doing something and it would be hours before I would go I stopped that because now everytime I need to go at all I am in pain and I know my aunt is the same way and she has been since she was little too not sure why.

@sjmc1989 Sending warm thoughts your way that it is nothing serious and that you find a way to figure out the cause.

Could also be you need some training on your habits. You may not be urinating properly or enough because of the pain. Or too much because of the constant feeling of needing to pee. Or not wiping properly (i do not assume you are ignorant but it is worthy of suggestion). But even if these were the case they would just be treating the symptoms and I would want to know the cause.

I don’t know about all the other business but I fight UTI’s every single day. I take 4–5 pomegranite capsules right when I feel one coming on. The pain is gone in 20 min. I drink water like it’s going out of style and nothing else works for me either.
