When you ask a question, do you give a "great answer" to everyone that responds?

Asked by eeveegurl (1356points) December 12th, 2009

…or do you only give them to the ones that you think are amazing?

I’m new here, and was wondering if this was more about personal preference, or if was considered fluther-etiquette to give everyone a “great answer” because they actually bothered to reply.

I only give it to people that answer on topic. If its random chat/spam then I don’t.

eeveegurl's avatar

@pjanaway – do you give it to each and every person that answers on topic?

pjanaway's avatar

If it answers the question, then normally yes.

But its upto you what you do. :)

If you like the answer, but don’t feel it’s a “Great Answer”, you can always, at the very least, click the “Say Thanks” link to thank them via PM.

Conversely, feel free to lurve me constantly…. ~ :)

Kind of depends on the nature of the question. If I’m asking for people to share their experiences or their perspective (i.e. a very subjective kind of question), then I’ll GA just about any answer that shows a good will effort. But if I’m asking for a technical explanation or something that requires a degree of expertise, then I’ll tend to hold out for a good, solid presentation of the facts, or at least a helpful insight.

Almost all of them. I feel most of them are “great.” There are the occasional off topic or non-helpful answers which don’t get my lurve.

I’m like @Harp; it depends on the question. The level of thought that goes into the answer, or the insights that the answer provides merits a GA. Not every answer is a good answer; sometimes people confirm a previous answer by restating it, sometimes the answers become a discussion about the various solutions to the question, and sometimes people offer a humorous quip, which only earns a GA if it’s actually on topic.

I only give a Good Question to those that, when I read it, I think, “Wow! That’s a great question!”

If it is my question, I give them to everyone who has made a sincere effort to respond in good faith.

If it is someone else’s question, I only give Great Answers to great answers. Which to mme is a good, comprehensive answer or sometimes a very funny answer.

I’d just like to add that there really is no “Fluther protocol” for the whole “lurve” system. Everyone has their own standards. Some spray lurve around like they’re salting the sidewalk, others dole it out like it’s the Nobel prize.

You also might be interested to know that there are limits on lurve: You can only give 200 (I think that’s right) total lurve points to any other single user. This is to prevent gaming the points system. After that total has been reached, you can hand out GA’s to them, but they don’t contribute to their point total anymore. You’re “maxed out” on that user. Just FYI.

@Harp – Oh! That’s really interesting! Didn’t know that at all.

The “Congratulations for reaching 10,000 and 20,000 Lurve” questions become Lurve-Ins. Everyone gives Lurve to everyone and the asker of the question gets “Good Question” lurve. It’s like a party.

@Harp Great answer. I though ti was 100 points that maxed you out on someone – is it 200?

Harp's avatar

@janbb You know, I wavered between 100 and 200; I honestly can’t remember. You may be right.

Blondesjon's avatar

I do 100%. If you took the trouble to answer I can click you a little lurve.

OpryLeigh's avatar

No, I only give an GA to and answer that I consider to be great. Simple really.

toomuchcoffee911's avatar

It’s polite, I think, especially when helping solve a problem.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@Leanne1986 Exactly. Just because someone answers your question doesn’t mean its a good answer. A couple on here post crap every time they write. I don’t give lurve unless it’s deserved.

NaturalMineralWater's avatar

no. that would be wishy washy. if it’s a terrible answer it’s a terrible answer.. it doesn’t get credit from me.

casheroo's avatar

No. I mark GA’s when the person has helped me. If I started a discussion, and get opinions, I’m more free with my lurve.

filmfann's avatar

Depends on the question. Usually I will give lurve to everyone, but on some questions I resist if the answer is severly off topic.
And no one like a Rick-Roller.

AstroChuck's avatar

Usually. It really depends on the nature of my question.

YARNLADY's avatar

Yes, if I feel they have made a contribution to Fluther, I don’t have to agree with it, and it doesn’t have to be ‘great’. To me every answer in Fluther is ‘great. However, it’s a well known fact that I do not approve of swear words, so if the answer contains swearing, I don’t go against my own preference.

Blondesjon's avatar

@YARNLADY . . . so you are saying there is no fucking way you would give this +5?

Jude's avatar

You have to earn your love, baby. A witty response, a well written/thought out answer, usually something that I can relate to (hits close to home) – - – you get lurve.

AstroChuck's avatar

Testing again.

OpryLeigh's avatar

@jbfletcherfan I’m sure some Jellies would think I was being harsh by not being so carefree with my lurve but I really enjoy reading decent answers that make me think and want to discuss further. I want to encourage answers like this in order to keep Fluther my number 1 website and I do this by giving a GA. If I gave lurve to everyone just because they have answered the question (regardless of how helpful or interesting their answer was) then the really good answers aren’t getting the credit they deserve.

Confuscious's avatar

@Harp At the risk of sounding really stupid. Is that 200 points per person, for ever, weekly, daily?

YARNLADY's avatar

@Confuscious The point limit is per person, forever. You can still give GA to their answer, but when your lurve to them = the limit (I think it’s 100) they will no longer get lurve points for it.

Confuscious's avatar

@YARNLADY Thank you for responding, Yarnlady.
