What ever happened to "New Coke"?

Asked by HungryGuy (16039points) December 12th, 2009

Do management decision makers have to make the same mistakes over, and over, and over, and over again???

Some MBAs who thought they were cute probably lost their jobs.

Same thing that happened to Bill Cosby, it got old.

Bill went a step farther and became unfunny as well as old.

It’s now crack.

I hear that they have trailer loads of the stuff over at AnswerBag headquarters. They’re hoping for a New Pepsi to go with it. Apparently it inspires them…

Its not new anymore.

@pouncey Beat me to it. Well said.

mellow_girl's avatar

it tasted like crap so they took it off the market…

toomuchcoffee911's avatar

Nobody liked it so they didn’t sell it anymore.

Does anyone here really “get” my question? Unfortunately, the moderator here made my delete all of my “Topics,” so the true meaning of my question has been lost :-(

I understood you to mean that you wondered why the marketing decision that Coke made to change its recipe was then reversed.

The reason is that taste-testing showed that people liked a sweeter product, Pepsi was running ads with blind taste-tests at the time, and the management at Coke panicked, and forgot that they were the custodians of an iconic brand, and that people cared deeply for its authenticity.

No brand is ever likely to make a similar mistake again.

If I have misunderstood your question, please enlighten me.

It tasted so much like Pepsi, it quietly slunk away in embarrassment.

HungryGuy's avatar

My question has nothing to do with Coke, New, or otherwise. Aaaargh! (I hate heavy-handed moderators!!!!)

So, restate your question in a post.

toomuchcoffee911's avatar

@HungryGuy Then why did you ask the question in the first place?

CyanoticWasp's avatar

@HungryGuy I thought I got it. Did I miss your point, too?

“Do management decision makers have to make the same mistakes over, and over, and over, and over again???”

Yes.

HungryGuy's avatar

@CyanoticWasp and others. Yeah you missed the point. But it’s not your fault, sorry for grumping at y’all yesterday :) The moderators made me delete and change my “topics,” which changed the whole meaning of my question :( No big deal…

HungryGuy's avatar

@toomuchcoffee911 – I asked the question to get an answer. But the moderators forced me to change my “topics,” which changed the original meaning of my question. That’s why!

toomuchcoffee911's avatar

@HungryGuy I see. What was your original question?

dpworkin's avatar

He was trying to spur a discussion of the behavior of the authorities at Answerbag, but since he insisted on being indirect his question kept getting modded, and since he was stubborn, he never resolved the problem.

HungryGuy's avatar

@pdworkin – Exactly!! :-)
