Double Post….......I apologize!

The BIGGEST THANK YOU that can be sent! Very special, each and everyone of them! Not being home with their families during the holiday seasons is a huge scarifice. (Thanksgiving and Christmas)

Happy holidays! It’s a bunch of people I don’t know. What the hell am I supposed to say?

erichw1504's avatar

@tinyfaery Well, how do you feel about them defending their country?

tinyfaery's avatar

Defending it from what? They aren’t over here defending us, they are in other countries trying to imperialize previously soverign nations. I have nothing to thank them for.

Thank you! May God bless and watch over you, come home safely and soon.

Serviceman… I’m not sure if that means soldier or civil servant but I’m going to assume it means soldier. If I knew the person, and knew it would be appreciated, I’d say “I’m so sorry.” Otherwise I wouldn’t go out of my way to say anything, but if the situation came up I’d simply say “happy holidays” or “season’s greetings” like I’d say to anyone else at this time of year.

God bless you all and I pray for all of you to return home safely someday soon.

I would say thank you for repairing my sink.

erichw1504's avatar

@tinyfaery Yea sure a lot of us are over there for whatever reasons, but the military’s first and foremost mission is to defend our country from foreign attacks.

CyanoticWasp's avatar

“Welcome home.”

Wouldn’t that be nice?

Pandora's avatar

@CyanoticWasp That would be nice! I miss my son. I’m sure others do too.

Most of them are doing a great job. It sure isn’t defending, but that’s ok.

nicobanks's avatar

@erichw1504 If that’s the first and foremost reason, what are they doing over there at all? I mean, logically, that doesn’t even make sense: you don’t defend yourself by leaving your own territory. By definition that would be “offense.” And anyway, who is attacking us?

@CyanoticWasp Yes that would be lovely.

erichw1504's avatar

@nicobanks That is a separate mission, being over there. Why don’t you ask former president Bush? I didn’t say anyone was attacking us currently, but we must prepare/prevent attacks, not react from attacks.

To the ladies and men in the Canadian military, “Thank-you!”.

Jacket's avatar

@erichw1504 Dude, if every nation would be preventing attacks, we would be in WWIII now. Acting like this is a super power privilege. Times are changing, and another world system is emerging. The US has done some big bloopers, but we have a certain stability thanks to what America does and stand for.

The soldiers are doing a good job. Why they are there is another question. But preemptive warfare can’t be justified by calling it defense. That is just wrong.

erichw1504's avatar

@Jacket What’s the point of the military then? Why do nations build up their military? Enlighten me.

Jacket's avatar

@erichw1504 The point of a military wasn’t the issue, was it? Every country has one. But defending a country, is defending it’s land, it’s home sphere. Preemptive warfare, sending troops to other countries is not defending the homeland. It is defending interests. Preemptive warfare can justify any attack on the US mainland as another nations defensive warfare. Russia could bomb washington with the same arguments in a given situation. Picture China building army and air bases throughout the US, and you would have a sense of what people in the middle east feels.

The US has been and is crucial for stability in international relations so far. That is not the point though. What I have an issue with is calling it defending the country. That hasn’t been done since WWII. The rest is political and economical interests.

An ape is not a monkey. They just look similar.

erichw1504's avatar

@Jacket I’m not saying that the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq are defending our country! I’m saying that what we are mainly doing (not in those countries) is defending our nation. If all of our troops were home and there was no wars going on, the military would be defending from possible future attacks.

Jacket's avatar

@erichw1504 Yes. Very much so.

Thank you. And good night.
