I have Otitus Externa which I could use some advice on how to manage?

Asked by LouLou (137points) December 16th, 2009

I have Otitus Externa in my ears which has now developed into dry, itchy, scaly and painful skin in the shells of both ears. The only thing that relieves it is E45 cream, but that doesn’t cure it, just soothes it. Any advice?

Have you tried Diprobase? It’s like industrial strength moisturiser and you use it for psoriasis

Hello; I am an Audiologist.

An Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose & Throat Dr.) can prescribe an appropriate cream, ointment, or drops, based on the diagnosis of whether the otitis is caused by a bacteria, fungus or other skin disorder. Getting an accurate diagnosis is the best way to ensure that you receive appropriate treatment.

MiraCell is an oil developed by an ENT Dr. that seems to be beneficial for many skin disorders of the ear. I have used it on other body parts, and it works well. As I got the link, I see that they have expanded their product line and may have to try their creams!

The Sahara Ear Dryer was also developed by an ENT Doctor to dry and soothe the ear canal with safe temperature, sound and air pressure levels. It helps inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi.

@hearkat Some travels were better than others, but both my sons are coming home today and I am so happy.
