Moving to Tampa. What neighborhood should I move to?

Asked by boxbubble (31points) December 19th, 2009

Looking for a young neighborhood in Tampa proper that is walking distance to a few bars and restaurants. I already know about Ybor, but is there anything else?

There are several great websites that can break down the neighborhoods of Tampa for you. You can go by school ratings (great, if you have children who attend public schools), neighborhood pricing, crime rates, and other things. Give me a sec and I’ll post those websites here for you.

There’s always College Town, around USF. Any of the apartment complexes around are within biking distance to the Mug and/or the Pegasus – those are the only two bars I ever go to. They’re both dives, but they’re the best for local Metal music.

Stay away from the area north of Fletcher and east of Nebraska. We call it “Suitcase City” – no one stays there for long.

Someone mentioned Carrollwood. It’s decent there, but it pretty much requires a car to live there – very suburban and everything is spread wide.

I was pretty content living in Hillsborough. New Tampa is nice if you have money to spend.
