What to do with extra barbeque grill propane tanks?

Asked by robmandu (21331points) February 27th, 2008

Yah, I know about Blue Rhino tank exchange at various retailers and fuel stations. The thing is, all those places want to EXCHANGE an empty tank for a full one. My problem is that I have two extra tanks that I don’t want. Where do I take those?

You may need to contact you local landfill management about hazardous waste disposal.

Sometimes picking up the phone works… talked to a friendly chap at Blue Rhino and he suggested that one can leave his empties alongside one of the Blue Rhino cabinets. They’d just get picked up with the next delivery.

OTOH, noticed that exchanging a cylinder is $20 around here, but buying a “spare” is $50… so the street price on one of these things empty is about $30. Now either craigslist or eBay are looking pretty good to me.
