When the late Charlton Heston lamented that his gun shall be prised from his cold dead hand, did he echo the views of most Americans?

I’ve lived 52 years, all of them in big cities, and I’ve never been in so much as a fistfight. No one has ever seriously threatened me with harm. I have no enemies and nothing worth stealing. No one’s out to get my family. I’m smart enough to stay away from situations that breed violence. I can’t imagine ever wanting to see somebody dead, or even bleeding.

What use could I possibly have for a gun?

@Harp I’ve no idea that’s a question for yourself. I just asked the question out of curiousity

@ucme I just answered in an attempt to satisfy your curiosity.

I say that the Second Amendment is, in order of importance, the first amendment. It is America’s First Freedom, the one right that protects all the others. Among freedom of speech, of the press, of religion, of assembly, of redress of grievances, it is the first among equals. It alone offers the absolute capacity to live without fear. The right to keep and bear arms is the one right that allows ‘rights’ to exist at all.

No guns in my house.
I’m wondering if ol’ Chuck Heston was buried with his gun or if they did in fact pry it from his cold, dead hand.

ucme's avatar

@AstroChuck He probably was the bombastic old fool

Since many clinical studies point to higher death rates for gun owners (including suicides, and self-inflicted injuries, mainly by kids), I don’t own a gun, nor would I. Thus, while I agree that Mr. Heston speaks for my people sometimes, in this case, he did not.

I understand both sides of the gun argument, but I lean more to the side of having them for this reason:

I don’t know if this is disinformation, but if it isn’t, its scares the shit out of me, and I’m English!

@Pazza link to snopes.com about the Amero. Bogus.

But the NRA would be thrilled with your reaction.

We own guns, all but one of them were handed down to us. My husband had his rifle he got as a man cub, the rest came from our parents collections when they passed. I would like to keep my right to bear arms, but the guns don’t matter to me one way or another.

This is for killing, this is for fun.
