How do you fix a broken iTouch?

Asked by Sonnerr (588points) December 22nd, 2009

Every time my touch makes a sound, like when I play a game or get a text, the volume control pops up and it shuts down. I can immediately turn it on (swipe it to open) and then its fine. but if it makes another noise, it’ll just do the same thing…

Is there anyway to fix this, without it being costly.(costly as in I HAVE NO MONIES)

Hold shift while you click the Restore button.

Well, it’s definitely not a hardware issue if it locks itself when it makes a sound. I’d do a restore using itunes. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
or do what the other guy said

@johnpowell i’m not sure what that’d do. Have you tried this method?

@LocoLuke I have tried that. it was jailbroken before, but could that be a problem? it didn’t act like this before

Yes.. If it is jailbroken I am not surprised that you are having a problem. Just do a restore to reset it to the factory settings.

It isn’t jailbroken anymore ‘cause I did restore it to the factory settings. but that was like.. a month ago.

Just do it again. It takes 30 minutes. It might fix it and it might not. I don’t see the harm in trying.

it shouldn’t matter whether or not you jailbroke it if you factory reset it. The worst that can happen is that you will have to move your music and apps onto the itouch again.
