Where do you go when you sleep?

Asked by robaccus (293points) December 24th, 2009

I don’t mean physically (unless you are a sleepwalker). I mean how do you account for your psychological absence?

Nope. I very rarely remember my dreams. If that is what you mean, lol.

loll..have sleep apnea! Physically, have gone to sleep in some very awkward places. Do to self preservation, will not mention here! Some are VERY funny!

I don’t remember many of them. Most that I do are quite bizarre, things like flying (without an aircraft). Once Meg visited me and implied that she wants me to join her.

How do I account for it? You want to see a receipt?

I’m sleeping, man, I don’t know where I go.

Maybe it’s like rebooting a computer, I’m still “there”, but I’m just not back “on” yet.

Unconscious.

cookieman's avatar

I’m not sure, but I wish I could visit more often.

Always to places I’ve been before. Sleeping is just a revisitation.

Sleeping is a dress rehersal for death…..

Places I can’t go during my waking hours :)

Sleep takes various portions of the brain involved with conscious thinking “offline” so they can be repaired. One of the functions of dreams is the copying of short-term memory to long-term memory.

I am dead, at least to the world.

I don’t go anywhere but I do seem to change state. I become heated cat furniture and sometimes wake up to find four of them on me.

Silhouette's avatar

I go forward or back in time depending on what I’m looking for.

@Darwin lol @ “heated cat furniture”. :)

It is one big shit sandwich, and I am always taking a bite.
Wait, that is when I am awake.

My dreams constantly change. But one thing that is consistent. The stress of daily life is not there.
There are no bills, or the things that remind me of them. No concern for what I “do not” have. No worry, of death or pain.
My dreams truly are always a living for the moment experience.

I dream most days, they are usually one of the following:

- Some sort of magical adventure, labyrinths often are a common theme.
– Porn.
– Memories of my childhood mixed with recent events. (often pretty strange)
– Sometimes they are repeats.
– Sometimes they show an event that happens to me in the future. (which comes true)

i have the wildest most weird dreams ever… :D
the one that can be considered recurrent is the one where I fly… no, not like superman, I’m wearing my underwear where its supposed to

Hell I guess

In dream land, where everything is not where it is supposed to be. Just the other night, for example, I dreamed that my house was part of my school and my friends all lived with me. It was definitely weird. Especially what happened in the dream….:)

Anywhere my head hits the pillow.

Insomnia has made the quality of my sleep so poor that if I do dream, I rarely remember anymore. I have suspicions of where I go in my head because when I wake up anymore, I assume I’m in the home of my SO and that they’re lying beside me. It’s a pang of not quite panic if I roll over and find I’m in my other bed, no warm body, no familiar smell, no arms wrapped around me.

Looks like a lot of people didn’t read the details of the question…

I’m still there. My subconscious is just sorting through memories and ideas.

The only place I feel comfortable and that’s my cold bedroom.

I love the mind!!!

YARNLADY's avatar

I suspect my conscious mind takes a vacation in the unconscious part of my brain.

I think dreaming is “God” doing what Milton Erickson did.
