Connection from Macbook Pro to Sony TV?

Asked by nfleck (7points) December 28th, 2009

I am having problems connecting my macbook pro to my sony bravia tv. I bought a dvi to hdmi cable and connected the computer directly to the tv but the picture will not come up. not sure what to do next. The sony website suggested turning both devices on and off but that didn’t work. Any suggestions?

dumb question, but did you change the TV to the correct input?

in addition to @mowens suggestion, some tvs have multiple HDMI channels. make sure youre on the right one, corresponding to your HDMI input plug. (HDMI-2 for plug #2, for example).

Also check your Mac’s System Preferences>Displays. You may need to click “Detect Displays” for your Mac to recognize the TV and adjust its resolution accordingly.

I agree with checking the inputs and also doing “Detect Displays”. But you should also consider that the adapter is bogus—it could be defective, it could be poor quality… these are digital specifications that are pretty complex. Does your TV have a VGA input? DVI-to-VGA is much simpler, and while you would lose a tiny bit of picture performance, if all else fails, it may be more reliable.
