Why do small toaster ovens sell so good on ebay?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) December 30th, 2009

My wife is an ebayer. her best sellers are Black and Decker toaster ovens. they’re a hot item and i do not understand why. each one she advertises sells almost immediately and she receives her asking price. my question is why? are these ovens not made anymore? whats the reason?

Toaster ovens are sent straight from heaven. You can make almost anything in them and they don’t take a tenth of the power an oven requires. We use ours all the time.

Plus, one never knows when a mini-pizza will be required STAT.

Are they significantly cheaper than buying them at a local retailer (after shipping)?
If not, I would be rather confused as well…

They can be impossible to find! I was looking for one for a gift a couple of months ago and finally had to order one. It was exceedingly expensive. I’m a frequent ebayer and wish I would’ve thought to look there!

Maybe because many people just don’t do much cooking anymore. A toaster oven is an easy way to heat up things and doesn’t take up much space.

During the time I was living off eBay sales, I was amazed at the places I would ship items.

Someone bid and spent $25 plus shipping for a movie I got out of the dollar bin at WalMart. Imagine the bidding war, since it started as a $.99 auction.

Turned out, the person lived on top of a mountain in the middle of Nowheresville, Montana, population “Whomever’s Reading the Population Sign”.

It actually cost less for them to order the item at high dollar off eBay and have the mailman deliver it, than to travel to the nearest “we have everything” store and pick it up for a buck.
