If you like reality shows like Survivor or Big Brother, could you watch them in a foreign language?

Asked by Zen_Again (9931points) December 30th, 2009

I was just watching the finale of yet another reality show, and thought about this.

There’s no doubt that certain “foreign” films (in quotes because even American films are foreign – outside America) are fantastic and sometimes even require little translation – Fellini comes to mind, or if you like action films, how about Luc Besson?

But Reality? That’s just regular people in extreme (at times) situations. Could you watch it in a foreign language?

Side question: will reality shows stand the test of time?

I never watch such shows . I think they are examples of Human beings acting badly.
I would cut them all to pieces in minutes. They all make me ill .

I think most reality shows are for the dumb and dumber and so, yes, they will stand the test of time and probably proliferate. All the while the intelligent reality shows lose funding. Boy, I sound pompous!!

@faceman

There is in the term of a location, eg. “Over there!”
The’re is in the term of objects or multiple things, eg. “No thanks, the’re too boring anyway.”

@XOIIO If we’re going to go all grammatical – then it should be they’re.

LOL I do that to bug people. Nothing like correcting bad grammar with bad grammar.

I’d love to watch a reality show in a foreign language. It seems like a much better way than a scripted tv show to learn how people actually talk and act. It would give insight into what appeals to large audiences in that culture. Not every reality show is like Survivor or The Real World, though. I love watching Iron Chef Japan and Iron Chef America.

@Haleth Act? Or perhaps you mean behave, as in culturally in their enviroment?
