How would the world be different if women were physically stronger than men?

Asked by lloydbird (8740points) December 30th, 2009

Do you think better, do you think worse, do you think – no different, or do you think, something else?

There’d be more domestic violence.

Maybe the incidents of rape would decrease and injured a**holes would be in the ER or the morgue.

Fewer men would be needed to open jars.

I expect that men would be the nannies and engage in domestic work while women would be running around the world getting into mischief. If they got pregnant, they’d come home and dump the whelp on the man, then take off again. Occasionally there might be a woman who actually cared for her children, or cared who the father was, but mostly they’d be running around having loads of fun. Even more so once birth control was invented.

@daloon – and tampons, it is birth control and tampons that liberated women.

Men might be a lot more humble. Women could finally serve in combat roles in the military. More professional sports leagues for women maybe?

handjobs wouldn’t be nearly as popular.

Hahahahahahhaahahh!! Don’t be mad man. What is this bizarro world!
Well the increased production in bread would be impressive. They could really knead some dough but don’t we all like a tender pie crust? Yet the extra pressure on the iron would make short shift of the wrinkles by jove. Polishing the wood floors would be a breeze. And perhaps the vigorous application on the old John Thomas would prove to be the elixir of youth adding vigor to the staff as the years go by. Well you may just have something there. I stand corrected.

I think this question deserves more thoughtful answers. It’s 03:15 here. I’m not up to that right now!

No different, we would still have guns.

We as a society would have perfected the ways of peacemaking rather than waging war.

As the father of two daughters (no sons) and husband to my dear wife, it saddens me, and I think is quite telling, that there is such a relatively low response to this question from females.

I am a physically strong man, and because of my moral orientation (feminist favouring) and the disparity of physical strength between myself and my beloved immediate family, worried about what might occur to them when I am not with them to provide protection, when they venture out into the world and encounter ‘strong’ males of less honourable intent than myself.
Every time my wife or daughters (mid to late teens) step out of the door without me, I have to fight to stop my heart sinking.

The disparity of physical strength between men and women does not seem fair to me.
Bad design? I don’t know. I just wish that, like fathers of sons, I could expect to have my ass be able to be kicked by my kids – before I am really old and decrepit. And that my wife was not beholden to my good nature. Why should she be? I don’t like the arrangement. It should be equal at least.

Anyway, to answer my original question – I think that if one of the sexes has to have greater strength than the other, then it should reside with the sex that carries the greater responsibility (anatomically and in terms of nurturance) for the furtherance of the species. The female. Or at least there should be equality.

Okay here is my real answer, I don’t really know that it would be that much different except women would play the roles than men play now. I don’t really think females are inherently more honorable, less cruel, etc. than males. Society and culture have an image of them as such, but it truly seems to me that most women are pretty much like most men, they alternate between being saints and sinners. There are always extremes at either end but most fall in the middle so I don’t think the difference would be that great.

I do however firmly believe that every woman should be prepared to meet that guy at the extreme end of the spectrum. I think all women should take self defense classes. It doesn’t even the playing field completely but it certainly gives the female more confidence and a lot less of the victim feeling. Little girls don’t have to skip the ballet, twirling and cheerleading classes (although I wouldn’t care if they did) but make sure there is time in their schedule for karate or judo too.

@rooeytoo I agree that self defence knowledge does go some way towards redressing the balance, but a physically stronger male with self defence knowledge still has the advantage.

@lloydbird – you can’t win them all, but at the very least, the attacker would bear the scars of the encounter.

You can’t do more than you can do. Instead of dwelling on the odds of meeting an attacker who has a black belt (which are probably not that great), I would want my daughter to have her own black belt and be ready to do battle not just accept victimhood.
