What is another Open World FPS/RPG like Fallout 3?

Asked by JesusWasAJewbot (1510points) December 31st, 2009

Are there any games on Xbox 360 or PC that play similar too Fallout 3? Preferably Xbox 360, some kind of FPS/RPG. I tried Mass Effect but didnt really like it, too much blah blah not enough pew pew.

Borderlands is pretty identical (except for the graphics).

I haven’t played Fallout 3, so I’m not sure what it plays like, but another open world rpg that I enjoyed was Fable 2.

Well in that case I don’t know. The only other rpg’s I know of that let you attack first person are: Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, and Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. But they are less focusing on the pew pew and more on the kling kling (swords) and swoosh swoosh (magic fireballs).

Actually I couldn’t remember for the life of me what Dark Messiah was called, so I had to google it and found the answer in this thread that asks the same question as you do.

Try Bioshock; great scenery, lots of pew pew. New version coming out soon too.

Hmm I’ve played all the games mentioned in this thread so far (besides Borderlands) and the only one with an open-world like Fallout 3 is Oblivion which I recommend you check out. It is also made by the same company and the engines are pretty much the same except Oblivion is older.

As for PC, there are tonnes of online RPGs that you can play with other people. Some you have to pay a subscription, but others are free (but less good understandably).

/edit: Although Fable 2 is pretty good and recommended if you like classic RPGs. It isn’t as open as Fallout 3 though. Just depends how “open” you want a game really :D.

/edit2: Oops missed out Farcry 2. It’s a sandbox FPS game but the amount of customising is limited compared to Fallout 3. Most people recommend it if you are a fan out Fallout 3 though, including me.

/edit3: Although a game that has bad reviews, Two Worlds also fits your criteria. I haven’t bought it because of the reviews though. Similarly Risen is an open world RPG, but I have played it and hated the combat (on xbox) and general controls were really sloppy. However it looks more promosing on PC so I recommend you give it a try. Hopefully you can find a demo somewhere.

Played Oblivion, Fable 2 and Fallout 3, Borderlands isnt really an rpg, most of the missions are very repetitive.

Just hate to spend money on DLC for Fallout 3 just for a few more hours play.
