Both. Don’t show either to your 8 year old. Suck it up and watch a kids movie.

Transformers 2 is a bit inappropriate and painfully stupid. Avatar is a bit violent, but I think an 8 year old would be fine. Another option is to go see Fantastic Mr. Fox, which would be appropriate, and is a great movie.

I second Fantastic Mr. Fox. My six year old saw it recently and loved it.

I’ve seen Transformers 2 and wouldn’t let an 8 year old watch it. Not just for the language and violence, but also for the sexual content.

I haven’t seen Avatar and don’t even know what it’s rated. My cousin took her two boys, age 7 and 10, to see it though and she said they both loved it. However, she isn’t as anal as I am about what her kids watch and they’ve seen a lot of movies that I wouldn’t let my kids watch at the same age.

Another option currently in theaters is Alvin and the Chipmunks. My kids saw it with their grandparents yesterday and they loved it. I could do without my four year old yelling “Shake what your mama gave you!” eighty-seven times a day though.

I havent seen Avatar yet but Transofrmers 2 (cant even bring myself to spell it right) was kinda dumb. Aside from the special effects which half the time were whizzing by so fast they were just a blur on my retinas, the dialigue was mince and the acting more wooden than pinnochio’s jobbies!
Mind you that Megan Fox!..........even an 8 year old would say WOOF!

I’d like to point out that although Avatar obviously wasn’t R-rated, there was a romantic part that included a VERY short scene of the guy pulling the girl into his lap before they fuck beneath the tree of God or whatever.

Just depends on if you want your 8 year old seeing sexual suggestions.

I haven’t seen either movie. I am not too much into censoring though. Although I am not too much into violent scenes, I would be a bit more against an 8 year old seeing violence than the romantic part stemnyjones talks about.

Avatar>Transformers 2 for an 8 year old. Kids should not be raised with this new transformers garbage anyway, but it is definitely more sexual and inappropriate for kids than Avatar is. If you’d let your 8 year old watch Star Wars you probably wouldn’t mind letting them watch Avatar as far as violence is concerned. Though I can remember at least one brutal scene with a flaming horse running across the screen that might be kinda heavy for a younger kid.

I’ve seen both and won’t be letting my 7 and 8 year olds see either yet. The screaming creatures in Avatar and the language in Transformers knock them both out for our kids.

I wouldn’t let an 8 year old watch Transformers 2, it’s too sexual. And no-one older than that should waste their money on it, it’s one of the biggest pieces of garbage I’ve ever seen. Avatar – I dunno, haven’t seen it yet.
