How will you make a difference this year?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) January 5th, 2010

This year of 2010 how will you make a difference, what will you do? Will the difference you make only known by you but not who it may help? Will it just be personal to you, and you alone?

I don’t know if I will make a difference in myself or the populace at large but I hope to make a difference to my fiancée, so I will take that if I can get it.

I want to be more affectionate and tell people I love them when I do. I’m moving far away really soon and it just hit me tonight actually that these people that I won’t see for a very long time should know how much i love them…and before I probably wouldn’t have told them. For some reason “i love you” is a hard thing for me to say often/freely to my friends, but i’m gonna start! if they deserve my love, that is :P

a lot of ways I’ve probably not thought of yet, both good and bad undoubtedly; but in the planned department I’ve been toying with the idea of volunteering at the local museums to give tours and hosting a community bbq, don’t know if either will make a difference but you never know.

I’ll give birth and become a mom. That’s a pretty big impact on my life and on my future son’s!

Lots more warm greetings displaying high-fives, sturdy handshakes, and affectionate pecks on cheeks.

I won’t. And people should be thanking me for that.

I have a practice of learning people’s names that I come in daily contact with, and using their names when I see them. Neighbors, coffee shop, the wait staff at restaurants that I frequently go to, the book store. I try to take a moment, and ask how they are, and I introduce myself. As a result, I feel like I really live in a community. Pick one thing to volunteer for, and do it consistently. Pay attention to surroundings, and do the unexpected when the cost is only that of your time and effort. I write a thank you note once a week to someone, ranging from the barista at the coffee shop for always getting my order correct and being pleasant in the morning, to people at work who are enthusiastic about my projects, and make it easier. Cordiality makes a huge difference.

I’m going to use my creative side to do nice things for people (sending hand made thank you and thinking of you cards).

Now that it is 2011 anyone lived up to making the change they dreamed of or was it delayed until this year, and it is where you will nake a difference?
