What are video games that have Vikings as playable characters?

I can only recall a few off the top of my head – Viking on XB360 (didnt get such good reviews), You can have characters class set to Viking in Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced 2, Not too sure of any MMO’s that allow you to pick Viking as a class or any solo RPG’s.

@pjanaway Which age of Empires? And what is the Settlers, what console/pc?

@Staalesen Never heard of the first 2, never got into Age of Mythology, is that a strategy game?

The settlers is a PC game series, and yes Age of Mythologi is a strategygame ala Age of Empires. (Vikings are in the second AOE, If i remember right)

There was a MMORPG that I used to play called Dark Age of Camelot which had a realm that was closely related to norse mythology.

There was an old game on PS1 called Vikings which was great and it was in fact an RPG. Very good fun. And I had “Eric the Viking” on the Amiga, which had such good graphics that it’s even playable today (a platform game, a bit like Wonderland or Super Mario).

I think the reason you don’t get actual Vikings in RPGs is that you already have the Viking idea incorporated into generic characters such as the basic fighters and dwarven berzerkers and so on. DnD Dwarves (despite their size) have many Viking elements, and so do other PCs and NPCs, something that has simply being copied into CRGPs.

I guess the Viking is your basic human fighter, but with a more specific background.

My husband, a fan of Vikings in general, often plays as as Ragnarr Loðbrók in Civilization IV (using the “Warlords” expansion pack).

Final Fantasy III also has a viking class, and they’re pretty strong. It’s not the best FF game out there, and it’s really friggin’ hard to beat, but the class system is pretty cool. I enjoyed it anyway.

Plus, I thought the Viking costumes were great xD
