I think we should all have an automatic spelling and grammar checker implanted in our brains so that every thing we write and say comes out correctly. I know I could frequently use one!

jca's avatar

@janbb : i think @Strawberries can use one, too.

@jca: Spelling and grammar is the last thing i would worry about..If my point gets across, im ok.

@Strawberries: i totally understand, as i am one who does not use caps unless it’s absolutely necessary. however, on this site, it seems like you’re taken more seriously if you use proper and correct.

A matter, maybe an atom transporter. Imagine little phone booth looking stations everywhere. All the “passenger” has to do is type in the address of their destination, and off they go, their moles traveling alone wires or maybe through just plain old air, to be reassembled at the destination. Or maybe their molecules convert from a solid and luqid state to gaseous state, to be transported to the destination in nano seconds!

Such an invention would save time (ten hour flights could be cut down to under fifteen minutes), money (families wouldn’t have to buy cars and roads wouldn’t have to be maintained) and the environment (the exhaust from cars, airplanes and trains would no longer be a problem). The problem of car theft would be solved as well.

A working version of Windows would be cool.

Replicators. They will end the reign of money, greed and capitalism and lead us into global prosperity. It will also acceleratte technological development and space exploration by eliminating the hindrance of scarcity of ressources.

Zero Point Energy generator. It will end our dependence on fuel based energy sources, end environmental pollution caused by burning fossil fules, it will finally destroy the oil industry and I will make electricity virtually free for everyone.

Warp Drive/Wormhole drive. It will enable humanity to leave its cradle and make its destiny among the stars.

Non-Centrifugal force based Artificial Gravity. It will enable humans to travel through space for long periods of time without the atrophying sideeffects of weightlessness. The technology would also relinquish starships from the structural deficiencies of centrifugal systems, making them stronger and thus more suited for space travel and combat.

Anti-Gravity (disputed). It would reduce the difficulties of transporting heavy goods across the planet and into space and make it easier for space ships to accelerate to speeds close to c.

That “moles” should molecules. Drat 10 minute editing limits.

Which society? If for the US, get a doggone force shield!
If for the world, a better program to determine how the Nobel Peace is given.

You all have such deep inventions in mind.

I was thinking, and maybe it already exists.
I sometimes need a rake or a broom that can be effectively used one handed.
My left arm doesn’t always work properly.
It’s really hard to rake with only one arm.

@jca – what about a site where I could go and get my home work done for me?

1. A portable automatic fire extinguisher. Something on a tripod that dispenses A/B/C fire chemicals when it detects smoke. This way people who use high intensity lights for whatever reasons, or who have a lot of electronics and extension cords and stuff, can add this safety component to their setup.

2. Underwear in different lengths, even from the same sizes…. so that by using various lengths, you won’t form an obvious underwear-line on your body in the waistband area caused by using the same length every day.

3. Sinks with the faucet knobs inside the sinkbowl, instead of next to it. This way all the splashing that occurs around these knobs, goes into the bowl and down the drain instead of randomly splattered on the countertop.

4. A Kindle type device for reading the daily newspaper. Paid for by your newspaper in exchange for your yearlong subscription

5. A turbine that is underneath freeways and busy roads that is attached to pressbuttons in the road that cars drive over, which powers the turbines, which would create electricity

6. An electrical 3-for-1 adapter that triages the electricity, with a default path. For instance, if you plug in the laundry machine, microwave, and fridge into it… it would automatically cut electricity to the fridge temporarily…. to give full power to the microwave and laundry machine.

@Kraigmo All of yours are great, but Your number 3 is my favorite. Many old sinks were made just that way, and then they stopped doing making them. I have wondered for years why? It was a much easier then to keep the sink area clean.

@Kraigmo: very impressive and thoughtful list. i like 3, 4 and 6. 3 very practical. 4 would be a great promo idea and i would be surprised if no newspaper (or magazine for that matter) does not think of it soon.
