I find jeans very comfortable and much more practical than skirts.

HTDC's avatar

It’s pretty obvious why. No need to constantly cross your legs. No need to worry about the wind blowing your skirt up. Way more comfortable etc etc.

john65pennington's avatar

My wife loves blue jeans. she states that one good reason, about wearing blue jeans, is that you do not have to worry about someone trying to look up your dress.

Makes sense to me.

TheLoneMonk's avatar

Frankly, I love my wife in jeans. As a matter of fact I like almost all women in jeans. Jeans make a nice ass nicer and an ok ass pretty darn fine.

Dr_Dredd's avatar

I don’t like skirts, since I can’t cross my legs the way I like to. (I generally sit in yoga position.) I also don’t want anyone looking up my skirt, as @john65pennington said!

Haleth's avatar

Would YOU wear a skirt if you could choose not to?

borderline_blonde's avatar

I agree with everyone else, wearing jeans is far more practical. Not only do I not have to worry about giving any unnecessary crotch shots, but it also reduces the amount of days I have to shave my legs.

Silhouette's avatar

I prefer blue jeans. If I wear a skirt, I wear tailored skirts and they aren’t the most comfortable in the world.

jonsblond's avatar

The activities that I like to do are much easier when I wear jeans. Have you ever seen a woman hike, garden, fish, walk a dog in the park or play on the playground with her child while wearing a skirt?

syz's avatar

Why should I wear a skirt?

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Hey, I like an occassional crotch shot, as long as its intentional. When my jaw drops and I trip over my own feet, and then look up to the eyes and see the woman laughing at my response, that is one of the nicest feelings. On the practical side, I wouldn’t wear a kilt.

asmonet's avatar

Warmer, more comfortable, I don’t have an issue with perverts looking up them, I don’t have to worry about crotch shots if I feel like sitting on the floor like a dude. They’re fucking better.

asmonet's avatar

That said, I do love the occasional dress and skirt, men may never understand the ease of a morning that only needs a dress to get you ready. Slip over head, walk out door. Bada bing bada boom.

deepdivercwa55m's avatar

skirts are getting old jeans are going up.. I prefer tight jeans on a girl

Sophief's avatar

I wear jeans when I am alone, but by the time my boyfriend comes home from work, I’m wearing a skirt and loking well presented.

cookieman's avatar

My wife prefers neither. She’s all about pants.

Wool, silk; short, long – generally loose and flowing.

Pants I tell ya. Pants.

“Slacks” if you must.

Pandora's avatar

Personally, although I like skirts in the summer because they are breezier. :)
I don’t like that you have to wear full stockings to keep your feet from sticking to your shoe.
Some sandles have soft fabric and you may not have to wear stockings but not every sandle goes with every skirt. Now in the cold months it just makes sense to keep warm.
And like some people said. The right fitting jean looks great and you don’t have to worry about a big breeze either.

Sandydog's avatar

I wore a kilt once and hated it !!
There was a strong wind blowing that day, so understand why women prefer jeans !! :-)

janbb's avatar

I’ve been wearing jeans since my teens for all the reasons stated above; more comfortable, grater mobility, feel they are flattering and they don’t have to be washed and ironed all the time. Denim is just a great fabric to wear.

TheLoneMonk's avatar

I’m thinking of going the Kilt route. I saw some guys in Seattle wearing them and they looked damn comfortable. I’ve got pretty good legs for an old man so why not?

janbb's avatar

@TheLoneMonk I was at a wdding in England and one young guy came in a kilt. He looked terrific.

Jude's avatar

For work, I tend to wear pencil skirts and dress pants. A night on the town, cute dresses/dressy jeans. Usually, you’ll see me in cords, and jeans.

scotsbloke's avatar

A kilt is not a skirt.. well, saying that, It’s not much like a skirt, Well, ok, it’s a bit like a skirt…....

As a Scotsman, I sometimes wear a kilt, to formal parties and whatnot, I don’t envy the skirt wearing fraternity one bit, It’s draughty, it’s not practical and lots of women keep trying to peek to see if your a real scotsman (Ok the last bit is wishful thinking)

me in a skirt KILT

SophiscatedLady's avatar

I personally won’t agree with most of them,I prefer skirt and will wear them all the time.
It shows the way we(females) are, plus it makes us more attractive and feminine from the eyes of most men. (Hot and Sexy!).

bunnygrl's avatar

Personally, although I admit as a Scotswoman I may be biased lol, a kilt worn the right way can be heartstoppping. Many men wear a kilt but few WEAR one :-) Worn correctly when a man walks the hem ever so gently swishes, not the whole kilt just the hem. Heartstopping it is.

To answer the question though, I work in a uniform so when at home, I do prefer jeans or joggies. Easier to get housework done, more comfortable etc as said above. I do love to wear a dress when going out though. I’ve always thought I was born too late. I wish I’d been born into an earlier time when women wore gloves, hats and were allowed to be ladies.
hugglys everyone xx

HTDC's avatar

@SophiscatedLady So a skirt is supposed to be the defining feature of being female? There’s more to life than looking attractive and trying to impress men.

Jude's avatar

To answer your question, I prefer pants/jean.

syz's avatar

<shudders> We’re supposed to wear skirts to fit the masculine idea of femininity? <gags>

lonelydragon's avatar

I agree with HTDC. If one’s concept of gender is based on a woman’s choice of pants or skirt, then you need to come into the 21st century, as women have been wearing pants since the 1940’s. And wearing jeans doesn’t necessarily preclude femininity. A woman can still buy jeans that accent her feminine curves.

In answer to the original question, I prefer pants because they allow greater mobility and relaxation. Traditional women’s skirts, especially pencil skirts and minis, are cut so tight as to make sitting and walking more difficult than they should be. When I wear them, I have to take short, mincing steps and getting out of a car gracefully can be a battle! Also, one doesn’t have to worry about crossing one’s legs or clenching them together all the time whens itting (though I usually cross my legs even when I’m wearing pants due to the sheer force of habit).

I will say that if I must wear a skirt, I prefer the long, flowing, bohemian style because they are almost as comfortable as pants.

Judi's avatar

You asked this question in the middle of a cold snap!! Pantie hose just don’t keep your legs warm!! Also, Skirts require heels to really look right.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

This is not a ‘phenomenon’, lol – it’s been going on for quite some time and it’s high time that you catch up – no matter your gender, I believe, one should wear whatever they like…that means women can wear jeans because it’s just jeans, just a piece of clothing, nothing that has to do with gender…by the same principle, I believe, that men, too, can wear skirts and dresses because, again, it’s just a piece of cloth.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Okay, I apologize for the kilt thing. I do have some Scotish blood in my veins. It’s just if I see a skirt or a kilt, I end up checking out the butt and sometimes, the joke turns out to be on me when its a kilt. Sorry ladies, someone gave me that y chromosome and I’ve enjoyed it everyday.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe the y chromosome is why you make bad jokes?

Likeradar's avatar

I usually wear jeans- I chase after kids all day so I know all my bits will be covered, and I don’t like how I look in skirts and sneakers. They’re warmer. I don’t have to shave my legs to wear jeans (yes, I know I never have to shave my legs at all). They match everything.
As soon as it gets warm though, I’m in skirts or dresses and sandals as much as possible. I hate shorts and want to stay cool.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir If anyone can find out where my warped sense of humor comes from, they probably would have me committed immediately. Feel free to let me have it anytime. In addition to the warped sense of humor I have a tough shell. I see several people agree with you. I’m fine with it.

tinyfaery's avatar

I wear skirts and dresses, but not very often. Jeans are just more practical. I don’t have to shave my legs or worry about what I can and cannot do.

The mere fact that you asked this question makes me think that either, a) you do not pay attention because the trend towards pants began way before I was born, and I’m no spring chicken; or b) you are not very smart, because you cannot figure out for yourself why women would prefer to not wear skirts.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@tinyfaery I think the user may be from a culture where it is way more acceptable for women to wear skirts than jeans…I could be wrong.

Judi's avatar

@tinyfaery ; I remember when they began allowing girls to wear pants in my grade school.

answerjill's avatar

I think that skirts are more comfortable than jeans—at least, the longish, loose kinds of skirts that I wear, anyway.

Supacase's avatar

Jeans don’t require me to shave my legs. I have to shave every day to keep my legs presentable and I am just not willing to do that year-round. Summer is plenty.

Also, jeans go with everything. I am not a morning person, so the less I need to think about before I walk out the door, the better.

delirium's avatar

Honestly, I don’t wear pants. I just wear skirts. I noticed a while back that my curvier figure is much better suited for skirts and dresses than it is for pants, and dress appropriately. Guys, also, seem to really enjoy it.

Plus I really enjoy the dissonance between the girl in the cute fluffy sundress and the reptiles she loves to work with. People never expect to see a girl, let alone one who is not a tomboy, knee deep in undergrowth, in the middle of the woods, with a triumphant expression on her face and a very upset/bitey, adorable wild snake in her hands.

ubersiren's avatar

If I wear a skirt when it’s super hot outside, my legs chafe.
If it’s windy, I’m risking indecent exposure.
I have to shave my legs.
My legs are not my most attractive part anymore since that vein popped out after my first pregnancy.
Jeans can be just as sexy and feminine as a skirt!
Jeans go with everything and are very versatile (can be dressed up or down).
They last a long time.
Jeans don’t go out of style like skirt styles do.
They’re comfortable, and get more comfortable the more you wear them.
You can wear whatever shoes you want with them, unlike skirts.
It’s freaking freezing out there, Mr. Bigglesworth! I’m wearing jeans.
I don’t usually feel girly, so I can wear jeans and a sweatshirt to fit my mood. If I only had skirts, I couldn’t really escape the femininity that comes with them.
I couldn’t ride a motorcycle in a skirt!

jca's avatar

i used to only wear skirts and dresses to weddings, now i don’t even wear them to weddings, as many women wear pants to weddings now. i think i look better in pants. i am definitely “a jeans girl.”

i think a man should try getting into a car with a tight skirt on and then ask this question.

zephyr826's avatar

I love dresses and skirts of course, that may be because I love cool stockings. However, jeans or ants serve a practical purpose. There are times where it’s not practical to wear a skirt, particularly a straight one, because the activity will be easier with a greater freedom of movement.

I also, on occasion, wear skirts over jeans – GASP! :)

sjmc1989's avatar

If it is warm enough chances are I’m in a dress or a skirt. I love them and I find them more comfortable then jeans! I can’t wait until spring :)

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@zephyr826 doing that right now, lol – it’s freezing here.

dutchbrossis's avatar

Jeans when I need to stay warm. I don’t like skirts as much because they are uncomfortable. As far as crotch shots, I don’t really care what people see on me. :-)

KatawaGrey's avatar

I almost never wear skirts for one reason and one reason only: My thighs rub together. I am knock kneed so no matter how little I weight, my thighs will rub together and it is uncomfortable and painful.

Likeradar's avatar

@Doctor_D Are you from a culture or country where women usually don’t wear pants?

Your_Majesty's avatar

@Likeradar yes,I live in Islamic dominated country (but I’m not an Islam).

casheroo's avatar

I just find them more practical. I do enjoy wearing skirts in the summer. I feel too dressy when I wear them though, even if it’s just casually.
I think women and men should wear what they’re comfortable with.

daemonelson's avatar

While I’m not female, I’d rather like to get a kilt, just for the novelty. Also, because jeans seem to be just about the most common clothing item in the universe.

In other news, I rather like the look of females wearing either. Hooray for raging hormones!

phil196662's avatar

My Wife love her jeans because they show off her legs, and she really loves the anticipation as I peel them off her!

Trance24's avatar

Try running around in a skirt all day you tell me if you prefer the pants or not. Jeans have less restrictions than a skirt. I can do almost anything in jeans, not so much a skirt.

Dr_Lawrence's avatar

For women who like to wear skirts, I appreciate the look and the extra effort it takes in so many ways. I hate men who think a skirt is their opportunity to catch sight of something.

For women who prefer pants or jeans, I understand and respect that jeans are so much easier and more comfortable.

delirium's avatar

I’m happy, Dr. Lawrence, that you understand.

Skippy's avatar

Winter = cold = pants. Think about the cold winter air going up to your nutz….

answerjill's avatar

I wear thick tights or leggings under skirts in winter. It keeps me warm. To each his (or her own), I say.

ailsa's avatar

Well, i like to wear jeans. I think jean is more convenient than skirt. And jeans look more cool than skirts.

Jeruba's avatar

If I wear a skirt, I am thinking more about how I look. If I wear jeans, I am thinking more about how I feel.

A man in a kilt looks sensational.

Facade's avatar

Because skirts tend to rid up my waist, and jeans do not. That’s pretty much it. I don’t think they any more or less comfortable than jeans.

Sandydog's avatar

I did wear a kilt one more time at my wedding !!
The guy who done the measuring for it didn’t do a good job though, and it was too long.
I think I may have liked the original highland kilt better that the modern thing.

janbb's avatar

@Sandydog What’s the difference?

Sandydog's avatar

A huge difference in fact.
The modern kilt became a fashion accessory after king George the 3rd started a fashion with it back in the 19th century.
With the highland kilt you laid it out on the ground and then lay down and wrapped it all round you, it was nothing like a skirt.
Dont know if theres anything to explain it better on the web.

janbb's avatar

thanks. I didn’t know.

Jeruba's avatar

@Sandydog, I did actually find online detailed explanations of the types of kilts, including what a phillabeg is and how to don the Highland kilt, back when I was researching something for an article. There’s plenty of information on the Web.

I remember reading that one of the advantages of the kilt to fighting men, as well as allowing plenty of freedom of movement, was that it kept your garment above the level of tall wet grasses, rivers you might have to wade, etc., instead of having trousers that were soaked through from the ankles up. Being able to unfold it and spread it out before the fire to dry was another big plus, even if there was that little awkwardness of having to lie down and roll up in it and secure it with a big belt, maybe while the enemy was at hand.

But wouldn’t a belt tight enough to hold a length of heavy wool in place be rather restricting? And what if it didn’t? Did anyone’s kilt ever come undone in the heat of combat? I wondered these things, but the sources didn’t tell.

Strauss's avatar

@ubersiren Although I have seem some fine looking women in skirts on motorcycles, I can’t get this picture out of my mind whenever I think of skirts and motorcycles in the same sentence.

Judi's avatar

after looking at @Yetanotheruser ‘s link, all I can say is, “What the heck was the quetion again?” YIKES!!

MissA's avatar

I love wearing skirts…there’s so much fine fabric to choose from!

Reading about skirts and suggestions of restrictions is foreign to me. I do everything in a skirt…gardening, walking, cleaning, cooking. I don’t understand the concern about someone looking up a skirt! At most, they’d see my legs and panties. But, I don’t see that as a huge risk! Hopefully, by now, my movements are lady-like.

If you prefer jeans, fine! That’s great. But, I’ll take my non-restrictive skirts any day. You can be more creative in dressing, in a skirt…and, as for legs rubbing together…thankfully, I don’t have that problem. But, wouldn’t it be a problem with jeans, as well?

Strauss's avatar

@Judi It is quite distracting. Imagine that if you’re driving down a highway at about 60 mph!

mYcHeMiCaLrOmAnCe's avatar

jeans are waaaay better than skirts
you can run while wearing jeans, but I would never run if I was wearing a skirt. so, jeans are better

Dr_Dredd's avatar

In addition to my previous point about liking to sit in yoga position, I also prefer not to wear skirts because I don’t like to cater to the people who think that women should wear skirts all the time.

xb12x's avatar

I’ve worn Kilts for a very long time. At the Highland games, we do the Hammer toss, the Caber toss the stone throw and so on; to participate, the kilt is mandatory.

For some there is also the “kilted run” event, 6 or 10 K. A proper kilt is totally unrestricted and way more comfortable than jeans.

If you are in the rain, the wool retains its insulation. I’ve been soaked in my kilt and still managed to stay warm. Try that in Jeans, u get wet u stay wet and get cold.

However I will not ride a motorcycle or a horse in a kilt.

XB12x <=not a woman : )

Jeans make a nice ass nicer and an ok ass pretty darn fine Having a toned physique makes a sexy ass, a grenade with a beer belly and muffin tops will not have a rocking heiny just because she has jeans on.

they say that americans dress lazy cuz they wear anything coumstrable even if it doesnt look good.you would know if a guy looked up your skirt your not blind.learn how to sit properly its not rocket science.and if its windy just hold down your skirt.its not like your gonna stay outside for 5 hours. I hear that! Thank heavens my fiancée loves her minis, and so do I, it is not THAT big of a deal. If you are wearing sweaters, etc, does it mean you won’t take time to shave those pits? Those who wear jeans I suspect none of you go Brazilian either? You all have a Southern mustache? Blast away if you will, but I think a woman looks more attractive and feminine in a skirt or dress. If she is too heavy or has tons of cottage cheese then she should do us all a favor and wear jeans, very loose ones.

I am a recently ‘out’ Trans Woman, born AMAB (Assigned Male At Birth) and have just recently started to wear skirts, mini/midi… not too fond of maxi skirts though.

For quite a while now I’ve wondered why AFAB’s (Assigned Female At Birth) prefer jeans to skirts… skirts are way more comfortable than jeans/trousers IMO. They are cooler, offer increased range of movement and unlimited air flow.

However, I appreciate the AFAB’s point of view about why they prefer jeans over skirts. It’s all about how you ‘feel’ wearing a particular item of clothing and what you need to accomplish throughout the day. To each her/his/their own. Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in…

Anxiously awaiting the warmer weather so I can wear my skirts more often…
